You bought a bad part. To many important parts now are being made or rebuilt BADLY in China.

Be aware, brake fluid can act as a great paint remover. It is possible that because of this malfunction your truck will need some new paint wherever brake fluid landed. If that happens make the parts store pay for it. Some pictures showing the bad part and the resulting brake fluid damage should get you an easy win in small claims court.

Talk to the parts shop. They should realize they have liability for selling a defective part. Mentioning that you would talk to a few reporters about how they sold you a part that could have killed you will also help convince them. If they refuse, talk to the newspapers and tv news.

Anytthing you buy comes with "an implied warranty of merchantability". That means it comes with a warranty that it will work for the purpose it is sold for. Also, there is liability involved. If the product fails and causes damage because of its failure there is liability involved. An example was the ford pinto (from the 70's). It blew up when rear ended. Ford paid out $millions because its car could not take a collision without exploding. That was a design defect which ford was responsible for. A caliper is no different. It is sold with the implied warranty that it can work in the place it was made for. If it fails the company is liable for any damage caused by the part failing. That includes a crash caused by lost brakes due to their faulty part. You do have to use some common sense also. A 26 year old part that is worn out is not expected to not break or fail.
