Bottoming tap for head studs

I'm goin to be changing my head gasket in the next couple of weeks so I'm goin to order a set of arp's from cpp as soon as I get off work. I've been tryin to read up on the bottoming tap a little bit, some say do it some say it's not worth it. I know every little bit more of the stud you can get in the block the better but I'm just wanting to know if I really need it or is it just more of personal preference kind of thing any help would be greatly appreciated. Also my truck has 169k miles if that helps any

Look at your "turbo size" thread. I gave you a reply. Its not really that it gives you a ton more of threads for the stud, its so it doesnt bottom out when you thread them in and you can get full nut engagment without hitting the bottom.

Yeah I really appreciate the help. I tried to post this thread earlier but I'm on my phone and don't have good service so it's got it all screwed up I called cpp a few minutes ago and he recommended I go ahead with the tap as well so as soon as I get off work I'm goin to put my order in

Since you'll have the head off do it. Just be carefule, when/if it gets tight back it up some and have another go.
Use plenty of oil and back the tap out when it starts to feel tight to clean well

I personally don't use spiral taps for this work I prefer roll taps

If you haven't ordered yet I recommend Cpp highly just got yet another vp44 from him :hehe:
