So I did a full boost test from the turbo right into the engine @ 40psi and nothing major showed up. Couldn't hear any air leaking etc but when I sprayed snoop on the boot connections it would slowly bubble all the way around, indicating a leak. This happened on every boot. So is this normal or does every boot happen to shot? Clamps were all cranked way down.
PS is there a particular place that the plastic intercoolers like to fail or is it random?
Thanks

What makes you think you have a boost leak? The plastic end tank CAC's fail where the tank is crimped to the tubes.

The loud annoying howling past about 10 psi is what makes me think its a boost leak. I got vids floating around here somewhere. I know its leaking at all the boots but how much if any leaking there is acceptable is the question I guess. Listened to it tonight while buddy was on the loud pedal making 6psi and noise is coming from the front passenger side. That's where the one boot is leaking the worst. But I can't pinpoint it due the the loudness of the turbo with no intake on

If it's just bubbles. Try tightening and if it doesn't stop I would worry about that.

So you have a loud howl above 10psi that you can hear driving but not when you pressurize the system to 40psi with the engine off?

Ya its just slow bubbles. I cranked all the clamps and it still bubbles. I think I'm gonna replace all the boots

Exactly :confused013: only thing I can think of that creates this is when the motor is running its moving a lotta air past the leaks whereas when its pressurized the only air moving is the leaks? I'm stumpped. Pretty much gonna start replacing parts. :banghead:

Almost sounds like a supercharger lol. Something to look at and its probably not it by any means i hope, but i saw a video on youtube that a turbo had a bend blade on the wheel and made it sound like a charger. The vid just reminded me of it haha

sounds like turbo whine. Did you remove the silencer ring and/or the baffles in the intake?
Silencer ring is gone got a custom 6" metal intake. Would a silencer ring make it sound that bad? The sound was there way back on a stock intake system too tho

That sounds just like turbo whine enhanced by the steel intake tube. What are your boos tnumbers when you push the fuel? Does it ever stop and level off? Go high thne drop way low?

Would not hurt to replace the boots with good silicone ones and new clamps. It is possible there is a pin hole in one of them that is opening under pressure.

Pushing 38psi of boost. This sound is directly related to turbo speed/boost if I hold 20psi for an hr it'll keeping making that same sound. Although on stock wg setting when it opened a 30psi u could hear it drop but then again boost dropped too. Its either boost or turbo related gotta figure out which lol

You don't have a boost leak causing it. You would never see 30 psi let alone 38 psi of boost if there was a large enough leak to make that noise. It is likely the result of somthing in the compressor fins that is causing it. If the turbo shaft has no side movement and minimal in-out it is a compressor fin defect, otherwise the turbo is wounded and all bets are off.

Turbo has no in and out play but a fair bit of up and down. I measured it and it was right at the top end of the holset specs, .022" I think. There is a mark on the inlet of the turbo like something went thru it or the shaft dropped and rubbed but I can't get it to rub now. Ill investigate the turbo thing. Hopefully find a good used one to swap in and leave. Thanks for all the help guys

Up and down is normal. In and out is bad.

If you can't replicate that noise with a boost leak test then it's not a boost leak.

:agree2: I completely agree :agree2: Look on you tube of silencer ring being removed and sounds the same, watch part 1 in link and then part 2 and you will see. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1pgG6jXNTKI

I couldn't hear the sound my truck makes when he revved it in the second part there. I definitely don't sound like mine when I free rev it like he did. But its a thot. I can get my hands on a silencer ring easy enuf and pop it in and see if its the culprit
