Rather than spend a long time looking for this info I thought I would shoot a thread out to all you pros who may know this off the top of your head.

Can someone give me the exact part #, link, or location to buy one of those block heater cords for a 2005 2500 for this cold East Coast weather? I think they already come with the female plug end on the truck correct?

Thanks in advance folks!

My truck is a 2007 with the 5.9(should be the same as yours). The part number I have is for a Kat's Heaters and the number is 28416. I got it for a little over 30 bucks from a local auto store. My truck came from Florida, so it did not come with the cord, but it does have the heater already installed. look on the passenger side of your block, underneath the manifold, should have a black cap that screws off. I had to take my air filter elbow from the turbo out to screw it on, then had to route the cord, super easy. Good Luck!!!

Thanks guys! Looked on Genos and it sure is less than oem cable!! Their rep has always been good too. Just have to get under truck and find connection.

Also. Read here about those who plugged it into a timer so its not on all night. I mean it seriously cant run a power bill up that much by plugging in before bed? This and some new batteries and it should make an obvious change to way it labors to start each frigid morning right now.

Truly appreciate info again!

:agree2: just installed one from Genos yesterday very easy install. You don't have to get under the truck the heater is right behind the oil filter just unscrew the black cap and plug the cord in.

It's a easy install but if you want your 5 year old kid to do it, remove your oil filter and cai and tell him to get after it, it's that simple. Genos sends an install paper with pics too.

I'm no electrical genius but by judging from the size if the block heater, I don't think you have to worry about running up a bill. I plug mine in when I get home at night and don't unplug it until the middle of the next day.

I believe the block heaters are 700 watts. On my 07 there was a small black cap that screwed off exposing the block heater cord receptacle. I didn't have to remove the oil filter either.

If you get the Mopar/cummins part it has several small plugs that line up with holes in the frame that will bring the cord up to the front.

Made Order

Ok gents. I went ahead and pulled the plug (pun intended) on the order from Genos! Just hope its as easy as you say it is. So I just run a ext cord out under garage and plug it in before going to bed at night? Hope I friggin remember to unplug it before driving away in the morning! LOL

Thanks again for steering me right!

the factory block heater is 750w, not something that you want to be plugging in 24/7, but definitely wont give you a $1000 power bill if you plug it in overnight.

Ideally you should use a timer that fires it up ~1-2hrs before you want to start the truck. Depending on the outdoor temp, anything more than a couple hours and your just wasting power as the engine just sheds the heat as fast as the block heater is adding it
