Yep, I tried that a couple times, unless the cap is just old

Generally if the "Check Engine Light" has come on there will be a code stored in the vehicle's computer and it will be stored until erased using a scan tool or the truck has completed a sufficient number of drive cycles without having seen the problem reoccur. In this case it has done a self test seen no fault and erases the code.

No, I don't have an OBDII scanner, that's why I was hoping the self-check could tell me if I should be worried (this being a used truck and all).

Hard to say, I had a Locking Gas cap that threw a code soon after I installed it. Put the stock back on and the light went away after a few miles down the road.

looks like it may have been the gas cap after all, light went out after sitting overnight. thanks for the quick feedback yesterday
