I finally installed my bilst 5100 shocks.

Huge diff over oem. I have a dually 4x4 and it was so harsh to drive with out my trailer with the oem shocks I wondered how any of you drove them at all.

It rides 100% better!

I found mine cheaper than genos a few months ago via a google search at the time. It was a pain figuring out the part numbers and pricing them etc. But well worth it.

I didnt do my steer stabilizer, Im thinking about converting the mounts to a off the shelf bilst stabilizer, it seems like the kit was 300 bucks or so?

are these shocks bigger and more heavy duty than the factory shocks? I noticed my factory ones are pretty small. Are these better for offroading and towing? or what are their benefits?

Glad to hear the new shocks were much better than the OEM ones.

I just ordered a set of adjustable Rancho RSX9000 shocks and I hope they make a difference in ride quality associated with my new G rated tires...

Stock shocks are crap...plain and simple. They are NOT built for ride comfort or load capacity. They are used because they are cheap for dodge to produce.

The Bilstein 5100s are a mono tube nitrogen gas pressurized shocks with high flow piston. They will give better performance than all the white body lift company shocks out there and will last much longer. I've had RS5000s/9000s, procomp MX-6, etc and the 5100s are much better.

The 5100s are a perfect shock for added ride comfort/performance on stock or lifted trucks. In all honesty they are not much of an offroad shock for our application. With the heavy weight of our trucks these shocks are over powered pretty quick offroad. For a light offroad shock look to the 7100s or med to hard the 9100s or King/Fox 2.5s.

I appreciate the explanation! I figured the factory shocks were door stops..would I be happy with the 7100's for a little offroading? or will I be happy with the 5100's. I do mostly street driving but i do go off road sometimes.

the 5100's made a nice diff on my truck. the truck takes small bumps better, and while the ride feels a little more firm under some condititions, the truck doesn't waddle back and forth turning out of a driveway, and just feels overall smoother and more controlled. I do not do anything offroad.

I know I gave up some performance for adjustability, but I needed the shocks to be soft when unloaded due to the hard tires I run, and the shocks needed to be really firm when my truck is loaded with my slide-in camper with the trailer behind it hauling my jeep.

Hopefully I won' be too disappointed.

5100s will be fine for street and mild offroading. Mild as in slow trails or fire road type stuff. If you pick up the speed of the rough stuff the shocks will be overworked, get too hot and fade.

The 7100s are a nice step up because now you're into entry level performance shocks. These will give a better street and offroad ride than the 5100s because they can valved exaclty for you truck and use. The ressis will keep them cooler as you offroad harder.

We just got back from an offroad trip and one of the guys was running the Bilstein 2.0 (7100) kit. He held his own just fine and only fell behind the 2.65s (9100s) and King 3.0s when we were doing 60+ through the long whoop sections. But even at that point my 2.65 ressis were hotter than my exhaust pipe. LOL
