well if my motor didnt weigh so much, i wouldnt have this problem with buying a mud tire. I dont want to spend 1000 on tires, and then use them for a year and because the truck weighs so much.. have them turn into slicks! Im just wanting to see some feedback from guys who have, or know guys who have run mud tires on their diesels without wearing them off in a summer. Im running a 16" rim, and need a minimum of a 38. Up to a 40. Pretty much whats the longest lasting mud tire in those sizes. anyone?:beer

i had mud terrains for bout a month. quickly got rid of em cuz they made truck sluggish and they wear fast as hell. pro comp makes some nice "xtreme" all terrains that are guaranteed for 40000.

those are the tires i have been eyeing up for quite some time now! and if i dont find a more agressive tire that will last that long... thats what ill be getting. The only thing i wish those tires had, were a little more side lug! Im still searching around online to see the best price for those tires also.... im bummed out because i missed out on the pro comp 200 dollar rebate this year...:CRY:

Toyo MT's will oulast anything in a MT type tread. After that I'd look at Goodyear MTR's, the Parnelli Jones Dirt Grips, followed by Swamper SSR's & Nitto MG's.

I would avoid Procomp, M/T, and Cooper, they are very soft, usually load "D", and way overpriced for what you get.

A friend of mine runs SSR's on his Super Duty.. 38's, and usually changes them out every couple of years. He uses it as a daily driver, and commutes about 40 miles per day. A few other friends of mine run Procomp X-Terrains. They like the tires, but complain about them wearing out rather quickly.

I've ran BFG MT's, Swamper SSR, and TSL radials, Nitto TG's, Yokohama, Cooper MT's, and have finally seen the light with Toyo MT's. They are IMO superior in every aspect,:beer

the only draw back about the toyo open country M/T's... is they dont have my size in a 16.... :( biggest they have is a 38, which measures out to a 37.7... i might end up just buying two sets of tires, one for the mud, and one for the street/trail. ill have to find a store that sells that size in the toyo's and see how the price compares to the Pro Comps. Thanks alot for your input guys!!

i have run super swamper boggers on a couple of my diesels and they have a pretty decent wear, what most people dont like about them thou is they are noisy and don't have the best of road manners but if u can overlook that they might be an option

Have you looked at Maxxes the buckshot and Bighorn are vary popular around here.They seem to hold up good on our trucks. My buudy has a Powerjoke and has about 40k on a set of Buckshots and they are still in good shape,he pulls his mud truck about every weekend in the summer. Some of the guys around here run a tire called a Trailcutter, I think Mastercraft makes them. I do know that thay are some mud slinging S.O.B's.:peelout

I have a friend that has the x-terrain's and loves them.. I have personally only ran toyo mt/s and love them had the pro comp mud's and hated them they barely lasted 19k:CRY:

i dont have room for a 44, or a 52! Or a 20" rim haha, i would need to buy a 16.5 rim for most of those. Theres not alot of 16" millitary tires on ebay any more.

I have X Terrains and Im starting to wish I was running something else. I love the look of the tire and they work well off road but they are the last set of directional tires I will buy. You can only rotate the tires from front to back and if you want to have a matching spare then you'll have to get 2 depending on which side gets a flat. On the plus side, they are pretty quiet, but I did notice that they tend to wear fast in the front if you drive aggressive on the pavement.

i still dont understand how you plan on puttin a 38" tire under a 6" lifted 2nd gen

i never said i was done lifting it yet :woot: 3" BL, 2" shackle in the rear, and if i need it, 1" or 1.5" spacer in the front.

I ran the 38.5x14.50 X terrains on my truck but they only lasted 21k. I have 12K on my SSRs that are 38x15.50 and i LOVE them. they are not even half way worn yet, and they ride real smooth for that aggressive of a tire. the Xterrains performed well, when going forward, but dont get bogged down or try to reverse. They create four mudballs and will not clean in reverse. HATE directional tires. Havent gotten stuck in the SSRs yet, and that includes bottomless beach sand and clay! Best tires ive ran so far, just couldnt afford 100$ more a tire for the Toyo's.

i actually looked at the SSR's because a buddie of mine had them on his older chevy, he did alot of driving because he lived out of town and they wore really well. Its too bad they dont make them in a 40.

I actually just picked up a set of Military tires last month, before that i ran the Pro-comp extreme AT's, and the wear on those were great! Its too bad they dont make the 38.5 anymore in that tire, it performed well all around.

Yeah, i was going to say that will be my next three choices 1. Toyo M/T (everyone praises these) 2. SSR's or 3. Xtreme Mud Terrains. It hurts so much to put new 38's on the dodge tho. Luckily i work offshore so im not on my tires but 4 months out of the year, but i have to keep in mind the 6 hour drive i make when i go back to the boat! I thought these SSRs were not going to behave on that long drive, but they've been good to me.

Did you go with the Michelin XML's or what?? How do they ride and how much you pick them up for??

I went with the michelin XL's. 39x11's. They ride decent for a military tire, they are definately a hard compound and the lugs will cut easy because they have no give. But for the mud, they are great as long as there is a base. They have good road manners, but are loud as hell ( not saying its a bad thing ) Got them from 100dollarman , they were 250 each, brand new. Shipping was 260 for the skid though. All in all, im happy with them. They would look alot cooler if they were wider though.
