Bought mine from Pep Boys about two years ago. It is a Bosch and it was about $50. It was either there or the Cummins dealer for me.

I had same problem on my 03'. Bought one new from Napa. It started leaking (weeping) a week later. Ran it for months and then returned it (life time warranty). Ended up paying a lot more for one from the dealership-does not leak any more. The Napa one was leaking out the shaft, I think they have cheaper seals in them.

the high silicate antifreeze coolants are abrasive to the Cummins water pump seal, especially if left in longer than 1>2 years. the silicate precipitates out and collects in the seal, grinding compound.

only use low or no silicate coolants such at the Zerex G-05

would you use cheap thin Chinese import condoms that the seals blow out on or cheap adulterated weak Chinese made Viagra?

Cummins only prescribed for long and big water pump erections.

I bought my water pump that I replaced at 528,558 miles. I had been running Prestone, Any Engine Antifreeze for 2 years before this.

I am still running the Prestone and the Napa water pump has over 134,000 on it.

I put a NAPA pump on mine this past summer. It's going strong so far...

I had no idea when I did mine, but I bought 4 gallons of coolant and 4 gallons of distilled water (enough so I wouldn't get halfway through and have to run back to the store for more).

I ended up using around 2 gallons coolant and 1.5 gallons water IIRC

I notice there is two types of impeller one enclosed like a stator housing.
the other is open Star shaped impeller... the original is the enclosed stator type
Is there a performance difference?
or a consensus on who's pump to buy?

Oem cummins, F the discount auto parts bull they sell. If it says value or dura in the name F'em!
I only use genuine cummins parts on my trucks for maintenance stuff like this. 9 out of 10 times you'll never have an issue if installed correctly. I actually use my truck for more than a daily driver and i can't afford down time because i put crappy parts on to save nine dollars.
My two cents..
Oh, and when i say OEM i don't mean going to the stealership to get robbed either.

Genuine cummins OEM parts only when it comes to water pump/starter/internals, and that doesnt mean you have to buy it direct from cummins, you can still shop around for OEM cummins parts! Though it does seem hit and miss, sometimes buying direct from a cummins dealer is actually the better price!

IF OEM WAS SO GOOD IT THE FINS WOULD NOT HAVE FALLEN APART, THEY PUT A CHEAP PUMP FROM THE FACTORY WITH PLASTIC FINS SO YOU CAN'T CONVINCE ME OEM IS BETTER, GOING ON MY 4TH PUMP NOW AND EACH WAS A DIFFERENT BRAND AND FIN TYPE, TRYING GATES THIS TIME WTF

You are yelling about a 7-year-old thread, WHY...
What year truck uses plastic vanes on the WP?
What type of coolant are you using?

Another vote for Geno's - Gates. I did mine 6-8 years ago and it's fine. Make sure you use the correct fluid. IIRC it's OATs or something.

Think gates has gone downhill. My gates pump had a loose bearing after maybe 20-30K miles and my gates tensioner didn't last long. Idler pulley made it maybe 5-10K miles longer than the pump. Their belts are another problem.

I went with the improved 6.7L OEM waterpump + a slightly smaller belt since the pulley is smaller. Can't beat $50 for an OEM pump.
