Let me start out by saying that I HAVE searched on here for the answer to this and I have not found a recent thread on fuel pins for our VE pumped motors. I am looking at getting an aftermarket fuel pin and governer spring and fine tuning the AFC along with them. Looking to get everyone's input on the pros and cons of the different brands and cuts to see what I might like. Only mods currently are a slightly turned fuel screw, opened exhaust and a less restrictive air filter. I can handle some more fuel easily as I can completely clean up the exhaust smoke as boost comes up and EGT's barely get to 750 (post turbo) in a 5th gear WOT run. Thanks for reading the long post and I look forward to any and all comments.

not sure on what the true ( best ) pin would be. but the denny t stage 2 is a good pin and alot of people seem to like it. I have mine on order now, and no people who have it and really like it.

When do you want the fuel? Is this a fun truck or a work truck?

Work mostly with the occasional "Don't run too bad for a 20 year old pickup:thumbsup:" mixed in. Right now I am not really planning on doing anything with the turbo, maybe if I can find an hx or hy35 or something along those lines, but that is only if I come across some screaming deal on one. I have heard that a fuel pin and the 3200 RPM governer spring will wake these old girls up a bit, and for the money seemed like a good place to start.:confused013:

Thinking that mainly cause the ramp isn't as radical and the fuel comes in slower? Also how do you like the timing spacer? M&H I suspect?

I would agree with the Denny T stage 1, but he quit making the stage one and now only makes stage 2. I haven't completed my motor swap yet to test out my Denny T stage 2, but from my reading they may be a little too much fuel for what your are wanting. I also was strongly considering M&H pins, they have 5 different levels as well. You may want to watch some youtube videos of both if you are concerned about the smoke too

Thanks for the replies. I thought I looked on the Denny T site and saw the stage one available. Could be wrong though. I have looked at the manufacture's web site on the Denny T and M&H. Looks like they are both good, but their sites are geared towards selling you a product. I wanted some real world opinions from people who have been around them. Thanks again and keep the replies coming.

Anyone else have any input. There has to be more than 3 people that are running different fuel pins and have an opinion on them...

Hey, sorry for not having a reply, but thank you for this thread. I have a built pump by Mountaineer Diesel here in WV and they used the stock fuel pin when building the pump and I was wanting to get a Denny T of some kind and try it out. I think there is an old smoky pin, but not a whole lot of people like them because it's 'sticky'.

Ive got the bd pin and gov spring kit, works good I guess, itll smoke pretty good if i want but is very drivable, and hazes at wot, but i have nothing to compare that to, although ive pulled the pin and it does have a groove cut in it now? Its not that deep but maybe other brands use a harder pin, all in all im,happy with it and it should be alot better when i throw my hx 40 on this weekend

I was going to go with an M&H stage 2 pin myself. I then decided that if I was going to get a new pin anyways, then I could grind on my stock one with a sand flap wheel in an angle grinder and wouldn't matter if I messed it up.

I ground down the steeper edge uniform up and down with the normal curve and truned my star wheel 2 turns. Ran it and now decided that I can wait on a fuel pin til the need for even more power hits me.

Night and day difference in doing those 2 free mods and I haven't even touched my fuel screw.

Now this is more like I wanted to see. A lot of peoples input so I can try and decide what will work best for me.

Then you asked the wrong question. If you had said something like "what's your favorite fuel pin and why" you would have got this the whole way

I thought that was what I was asking. And thanks for your input on it. I am looking at the Denny T stage 1 pretty hard from what you said about it.

i love my Denny T Stage II. you won't regret it, it really made the truck get up and go.
to compensate for the added low-end smoke from the Stage II, you can tighten your AFC starwheel. that reduced the bottom-end smoke that was added from the stage II pin.

I ordered and received my stage 1 pin this month. Can't wait for my 4" exhaust to come in next Monday.

I like my MH 3 fuel pin. Not too hot for towing, and just enough for play. From what I've read the MH 3 and Denny T stage 1 pin are very similar. Same with thing with MH 5 and Denny T stage 2.

The reason you can get em now is he either redesigned them or took em off the market as I remember reading he had a bunch that had to soft of a metal. But either way the problem has been fixed n he's obviously selling them again.

No, the soft metal issue effected the stage 2 pin for the most part. The reason the stage one was hard to come by was because it was never a "ready for market part". He made some for people to try but as it turned out. The angle of the cut was to heavy and would cause binding of the little pin. He has since redesigned it and it works great.
