what would you guys say is the most cost effective highway tire? the most important features would be long life and fuel mileage.

I drive around 25-30k miles a year and its 100% on road (mostly highway). I occasionally tow a light trailer but 99% of the time im unloaded.

thanks!

There are many solid tires in your stock size depending on your needs and climate conditions. We would be happy to help you choose the right tire for your needs if you like? What is your zip code to have a better idea as to what type of weather you drive in?

Nitto duragrappler's
care to share your experience?

Michelin Defender 295/70/18 so far for me have been great, except the car like look.....

I'm just about ready to pull the trigger on 285/75/18 Falken AT3W or Cooper AT3 XLT's......

Rick
ive looked at defender's and they are big $$$! they cost 25% more then the above mentioned grapplers and other similar tires like cooper HT3's. how long have they lasted for you?

Mine were cheapest upgrade tire I could find in a 295/70/18 highway tread. That's why I tried them this time. Costco installed price was around 975.00 after a $70 Michelin rebate they almost always have going (in Oregon so saved $90.00 in tax).

I love them except for the wimpy look; hence why they are about to be taken off the truck because I can't take it anymore.

I will say other than driving on the the stock tires for a few miles before upgrading to an MT tire this is the first time (7 trucks) I've had a highway tire on my truck; so I may just like the quiet and better mpg and smoothness........

I've towed a few times and they did fine and they really are butter smooth and dead silent.

Good luck with your search.

P.S. I think you could safely get the new Cooper AT3 XLT's and have smoothness and quiet and a 50k or 60k warranty and be good to go......just a thought.

Oh forgot to say I've only had them on 2 1/2 years and 17k miles; truck is not a daily driver.....

They look close to new still and wearing better than any MT tire I have ever had; it seems like I got a better than average from the factory alignment than in the past; but again it might be because I've never ran a highway tread tire.

Michelins are the nicest and why they are one of the most expensive. I've never heard anyone say they wouldn't buy them again. I've been using Yokohama Geolander G056 on my trucks . Never had a problem with them. Good highway ride and also good in off road. I do mostly highway driving with mine plus some towing of my 5th wheel and going a bit off road when I go duck hunting. You can get them off Tire Rack for about $210/tire. I buy them from Tire Rack and pick them up in Delaware. Home of tax free shopping :)

Anyway, whatever tire people are used to using are the ones the will swear by regardless of price. So it's hard to take recommendations from the internet. I think you will want to check out various tire sites and read the reviews from users. I like how Tire Rack does it where in you can see all the various tires in your size and see how consumers ranked each category.

Here's how Tire Rack grades the 285/70/18 highway all season tires: Tire Rack 285/70/18 highway all season ratings
