bench testing solenoid

I have been searching like heck for bench testing all my trans sensors. Mainly od. I had it all on another computer last time my truck went down I remember using a meter But now I cant find it No where :banghead: If anyone has a link for it all I would greatly appreciate it

I dont know about a link but if your talking about the solenoid im thinking of, I have tested it by accessing the wire (I believe pin 55 ecm) and running it into the cab with me. Then while driving in 3rd at high rmp ground out the wire, if it shifts to OD solenoid is good.
Can you tell me alittle more about the ground wire test I have read about it but no real description on how to do it just if it works most likely tps is problem thanks
Well I tried the ground wire test. After I looked up several post wgich didn't really give much detail. On all the post guys say tap into the orange wire with the green strip others said orange with violet strip. Well colors and I don't mix to well (somewhat color blind)Looked like a black strip to me I tapped it. Didn't change a thing No OD and now she doesn't want to downshift unless I do it myself. So my thoughts are either I did it way wrong and now need new parts for sure or I did it right and need new parts for sure. Any thoughts before I feed her some more money
Maybe we could help more it you want to tell us all the symptoms and circumstances.
Found the problem IT A DODGE
The wire you tapped is to lock the convertor. It is not od. They are separate. I have a good lockup od solenoid I swapped out of mine and found it was not the problem. Now I have a new solenoid in that I can't take back. I'll sell it to ya for a reasonable price. You can test and see if its your problem.
Great comment by someone that can not write with proper grammar.

Sorry If I offended you bigfish just my sense of humor and my bad typing skills. Sebastian I ordered all the internal sensors and already installed them and adjusted the bands while I was there. I also checked the valve body out everything seems to be free. But still no od I guess I need to shell out a couple hundred for a new apps( I had shuttle shifting going on prior to losing od) What is the deal with them. I see online I can get a exact apps or one with adapt harness what is my best bet
That is OK, Thought maybe you were another Ford guy or something. If you have full throttle range I do not believe anything is wrong with your APPS. As long as the voltage is coming out of it to make it go correctly, then everything else works off the same signal I believe. If you have it going in and out of lock up that is one issue. If it is not going into OD at all that is different. If it is not going into OD at all then then you have a wire, connection or ECM or PCM problem if you have already replaced the OD solenoid. If you have it going into OD and lockup then it jumps in and out of lock up then you have the APPS wire picking up RF noise it is transmitting to the PCM. This can be fixed 95% of the time with a Navone or BD and other noise limiter installed over the APPS to PCM wire behind the air cleaner near the PCM. Was anything done to it just be fore it did this at all?

No I haven't had to do any real repairs in awhile (knock on wood). Around this time last year I had to rebuild the transmission. I am a tight so I did it myself went real smooth. I replace all bands, clutches, sensors, and seals And did not replace t-convertor couldn't afford that at the time. This year I have replaced the vp44,air dog lift pump a Big-UN lol and had to replace map sensor. I also have quadzilla in it as well. The truck has been shuttle shifting the past few months. So I have been doing the old unhook the battery trick usually worked for a couple weeks. When I lost od I was on I75 doing about 62ish on my speedo which is off Im running 35s I kicked her down like a and she never shifted back up Which Really Sucked.. BTW I am NOT a ford fan
Describe "shuttle shifting" what gears and other circumstances? Will TC lock up and hold in Third with OD locked out?
Before jumping to an ecm/pcm problem with no od, I would take out the od unit and have it inspected. Could've blown an od piston seal. It's like a 45 minute process to get the od unit out for the first time. If you know anyone with a scanner that can do real time take it for a drive and see if its commanding od, if it is then its not an pcm issue.

FWIW I spent 7 weeks fighting on od in mine, never did figure out why it dropped or came back...
She was shuttling in 3 and 4th and sometimes even 2nd at Low speeds. I can feel the tc lock Least I think so in 3rd I can feel and see the rpms drop around 200 rpm or so.And Sebastian I already swapped out the od sel. and went through the valve body and the pistons seem to be free and all looks great from I can tell. The hardest part of that is the nasty stinky fluid and the parking rod holy crap I hate the f**er

You took the back half of the trans off and swapped the seal there?
The tail of the trans? I just dropped the pan and filter YUCK!! lol And removed the vavle body Do I really need to fool witht he end of the trans? Whats back there That would cause this problem. All clutches and bands only have around 10k miles since replaced. If I had the funds She would have a stick in her

Nothing major back there. Only the whole od unit.:confused013:
The od piston could've blown out and it wouldn't shift into od. There's several issues that can cause it. Like I said before if you can get it on a scanner and see if the ecm is telling the trans to go into od and you swapped all sensors etc. Then you need to look at mechanical, being you said it just never shifted back into od it sounds mechanical. There is a thread on rebuilding the od unit, good info for taking it down and checking stuff. Google 47re od unit rebuild. It also tells how to test the od piston seal.

Thanks Sebastian I googled it like you said SO it looks like my day just became FUN. I have a little BS scanner "Actron" I have No codes There really isn't any where close I could take her to be scanned Besides the dodge dealer and F those guys I have had no luck with those guys.
Well I have torn it down so Here is what I have found. First the OD piston seal was pretty rough shape. And I found my od clutches are bad as well One of them is bear metal and the others aren't to far from it. So I guess I need to buy some new ones. Most likely do the whole trans. Or could I get by with the od discs. Thanks again
