I'm really close to pulling the trigger on an '06 Dodge reg. cab, cummins, 4x4, 4 spd auto, slt, 20k miles. Any thoughts on this truck good or bad? I've heard good things about the Cummins but have no idea if this year is good or bad historically. Anything you could tell me about it would be great. Were there 2 diesel engine options for that year because they are showing it at 305hp/555tq. I thought it was higher than that.

I just found an 06 cummins 2500 6speed auto QC 4x4 that I really like. Is the 6 speed better than the 4 speed auto? I usually just run around empty but a few times a year I tow a 40 foot Cyclone toy hauler. Which tranny is more durable? It's also a big horn edition. What is different about the Big Horn?

An 06 does not have a six speed auto. The six speed auto didn't come around until 07.5+ and newer trucks with the 6.7L Cummins engine.

All 5.9's have the 4 speed.

Maybe the truck you are looking at has a 6 speed manual.

So true. I now a couple ford guys that now drive a cummins and they will not go back the the powerjoke!!!
Go with the cummins 5.9 you will be a 1000 times happier with tht 5.9 then you will be with the 6.9, 7.3, 6.0 and 6.4. The 5.9 is an engine that beats them all hands down. If you do regular mantaince it will run forever, with no problems

Some people are happy with them and some people not so. I would wait a year or 2 before I got one, just so they get all the bugs worked out. Thats my $.02.

I saw what looked to be stock 6.7 pull the other weekend no exhaust, can't say for the air filter and saw almost no smoke out of it at all so I will say no programmar and I was impressed with it. It did better than most of the other trucks there in the stock class. Stock class was aloud to run programmar, exhaust and intakes just no performance engine parts and turbo could not be bigger than a certain number It did better than some trucks that were blowin smoke including some 2nd cummins.
With that said the 6.7 has the same hores and torque numbers and the 04.5-07 trucks with the 5.9 in them. I have the 07 with the 5.9 cuz I didnt want the 6.7 but after seeing that I think there is some potential for them. Might end up being better than the 5.9 would I buy the 6.7 over my 5.9 now that I saw that? Probobly not but never now.

20k miles??? Jump on it. If all else looks good you should write the check today before somebody buys it out from underneath you. That happened to me and I regretted losing that truck for a long time. And yeah they're wrong about the motor it's the 325/610 which is better for you just don't tell 'em any different they might raise the price. :D

From what I understand, the 6.7 with the manual trans is 305/610 and the auto tranny motor makes 350/650. Is that correct or is that just for the 4500-5500 trucks?
