The difference is night and day. After installing the short shift kit you will not believe how much travel their was with the factory shifter. The shifts are "almost car like", just a larger car.

Same here....

Check out this vid, the truck in the sig, which is my brothers, doing a test run down the road, I think its pretty quick shifting, cant wait to see how he does with a different shifter...

I heard about a guy going and having his 5spd facetoothed by craig at liberty transmissions. Talk about a u-joint eater, driving a crashbox all day would suck!

Now, a lenco style setup in one of these trucks would be en, I just dunno if they can take the torque.

does it go into gear easier? mine seems to struggle to get it in gear sometimes
When was the last time you changed the tranny fluid? I changed mine and it made a difference.

Also the slave cylinder may be going.

To my understanding the tops are diffrent like stated above and the earlier style can be converted to use the newer style but not sure what all changes have to be made to accept it.

Correct the top cover is different. On the later style the shifter bolts onto the top cover, on others its built in. You can switch the top cover, its the same.
