replacing my 7 year old, 60k mile batteries tomorrow. on cold starts, the battery gauge has started to drop for a few seconds, truck runs a lil rough, then the gauge reads normal and the truck runs fine. can i rule it out as batteries? alternator? talked to a friend with an 07 5.9, he said round 60k miles he had to replace his. im leaning toward optima red tops, with 800 CCA, or Sears
die Hard with 930 CCA, both of which ive heard good about. Or are there better batteries out there? they both run $200 a piece.

My truck does this also, it's the grid heater cycling on & off recharging your batteries from the cold start. Depending on the temperature it usually only takes a couple of minutes for the batteries to recharge and the truck will then run normal. You'll notice it with your headlights and interior lights at night. Also your heater.

But I still think you should go get your batteries tested. Be sure to do it at the store you plan on buying them from, because if one/both of them are bad and they test them, it's likely to ruin them.

DO NOT BUY WALMART BATTERIES. Trust me. I went through 6 Wally batteries in less than a year before I gave up with the free warranty replacements and went to napa. So far, so good.

I recently bought 2 autocraft gold from advance auto. With the instore discount and a coupon RETMENOT 124 and I'm out the door for $80.12 apiece. They have a 7 yr warrenty with 3 yr replacement. These batts. are 850CC.

If your thinking of going this route do it on line and buy the batts one at a time as that way you get the discount twice as opposed to just once on the total. In other words you'll get $40 off each batt instead of $40 off the total. And yes you do need to replace both batts at the same time....HTH

Find a battery with a HIGH reserve capacity and HIGH Cold Cranking Amps. I believe the Optima Yellow Tops are like 120 RC and can be found up to 1000CCA

Mopar batteries from the dealer. There cheaper than optimas and I'm assuming there the ones you got 7 years out of? I just replaced mine 2 months ago after 8 years and wow! It starts up quicker now in the cold then it would in the summer.

I can vouche for a MOPAR battery being good. I just replaced the batteries at the end of 2012. They were original batteries too.

But the pickup was in a heated garage at ALL times when not in use and I believe that is what saved them. But 10 years on a battery is A-OK in my book
