YES you WILL have to drop the X-member)
I love the sound and I get crazy comments & looks from everyone who notices it.

P.S. getting the tip on is a real B*%ch. I had to grease the pipe and then put a block of wood against the tip as a buddy hit the wood with a sledge hammer. All worth the effort though. After the tip was on I had to re-twist the rear exhaust pipe over the axle to have it line up again.
