Torque convertor and OD burning up due to improper cooling and also being stupid and doing boosted launches on a stock trans too many times. From what I have read and heard, heat is the main issue with the 47RE trans.

Thanks for the reply. I am looking for a 6spd but they are damn hard to find in my part of the country. I have seen auto's everywhere but I am unsure their strengths and weaknesses. When I do find a truck that suits me I plan on doing mild mods like a smarty or an edge, exhaust, and a cold air set up of some sort. The truck will be my daily driver and it will be used to tow my trail rig prolly once a month or so. Are there good and bad yrs for the automatics? Any advice/info is greatly appreciated.

Honestly I think all the dodge autos before '03 are junk. The 1/2 ton dodge truck are even worse I believe. I think it was '03 when they changed to the 48 trans, it was supposed to be better. I really don't know much about those.

If you do get a auto, first thing I will tell you to do is get the trans cooling system redone. My trans specialist told me to but I didn't have the extra money at the time. He told me I would be back. Sure enough a year later(one month ago) the OD burnt up because of insufficient cooling. Nothing else was wrong with it but we did full rebuild anyway.

Yup that pretty much goes along with what i have been told here locally. Well now all I need to do is locate a truck that isn't 500 miles away. :banghead:
