It may be nothin but here goes (bare with me)

Drivin to work, I have to get on the highway, so comin around the on ramp, it'll run in high gear. Most of the time I don't have to merge cuz theres barely any traffic in Salisbury but sometimes I hafta step on it to get in front of tractor trailers or somethin. When I do, it feels like it down shifts but revs up to over 3000 RPMS and doesn't seem to go anywhere (at least not as quick is I would think). When this happens I let off the pedal, and let it down shift a little easier and then get back into it.

I played around with it today, and gave it a little more gas comin around the bend onto the highway so I was in a lower gear before I stepped on it...it shifted fine.

I was thinkin, would the auto tranny try and shift from OD to a lower gear than 4th when you put the pedal to the floor, causing it to rev very high but not take off as it should? Just a thought...I can't imagine I smoked an auto tran with no fuel mods at 46k

I hope this all makes sense. If not, lemme know and I'll try to clarify. It's really been driving me crazy.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Thanks for any help

Mine sort of does the same thing from the way you describe it, and has since I got it. I just kind of adapted to how I could use the throttle. Most of the time I roll into it and it keeps it from down shifting bad.

Yea that's what I've started doing. When I punch it, I can hear it spool up for a second then try and hit the gear but it seems to just keep reving. "rollinn" into it like you said is alot smoother and doesn't freak me out as much. I guess we'll just see what happens.

I noticed the same thing on my trans. Didn't know if it was just how the dodge stock 48RE acted. Went ahead and Put a bully dog on it and it got worse. About a month with the Bully Dog and my converter started to come apart and trashed my trans.

Just curious, how much power were you makin with the bully dog? After I get my FBD exhaust and GH Delete on, my next mod would prolly be a smarty sr or jr (prolly jr, just lookin for fuel mileage right now) so Maybe run it on the 70hp setting or somewhere around there. Just curious as to how the TC/Tranny would behave?

More over, I know the torque converter is a component of the tranny, but what's it's purposes (besides to "convert torque" for all you smart a$$'s out there, I know how you play this game :T:)

Truck has 48K on it so no warranty on tranny. I put down 428hp and 775tq on dyno. Trans only lasted about a month after install of BD PMT. Installed New planetary gears, drum assembly, clutches, steel 1-2 shift lever, converter/valve body.

I would think if you ran it on the 70hp setting you probably wouldn't have too much trouble out of your tranny. My converter was actually the initial cause of my trans. failure. As far as explaining what your converter does if you go to goerend.com they explain what its job is and how it works pretty well. I would really recommend installing a converter and valve body before any mods if you can spare the $1,500.

Have the line pressure tested. Mine had to high of pressure and acted like what you are describing. I put in a diff. valve body. Good luck

What speed are you making it downshift at?
Well I figure Im comin around the on ramp at 35 40? So When I get on the flat and punch it, I haven't hit 50 (don't think so) usually I'm more concerned with the RPMs rather than the speed I'm rollin at so as soon as I here the high revs I immediately look at the rpm gauge. I'll hafta check it out again today and let you kno for sure but that's a pretty close guess.

You'd be in 3rd gear and it may be dropping down in to 1st gear breifly. 35-40mph is the utmost extreme end of 1st gear and you would be pegging redline.

That sounds about right dude. I wonder why it it wants to stay at the extreme end of 1st gear then instead of shiftin up right away? Is that what they call the stall point in your TC?
Or could it be slippage in my internal tranny clutches?
OR BOTH?!
