i have the 48re ....not really anything bad that I can say about this tranny. was kinda scared when i first bought it( because of reviews tranny), but i drive this truck pretty hard and alot. Pull small trailers weekly(4motorcycles), and a 13000# toy hauler 1-2 times a month from LA to the Bay ARea. I have 90,000 hard miles. that includes smashing on little cars&trucks on the freeways and stop-lights every so often. and not one problem. I have had my upgrades except the lift since about 8,000miles.Cant really say anything about the other auto tranny's but the 48re is a good tranny, Period.
BUT THE TRUTH IS , IF I COULD TAKE IT ALL BACK , I'D GET THE MANUAL [email protected][email protected]!:thumbsup BETTER MPG'S:CRY::CRY::CRY:

1 manual
2 depends on what your doing
3 manual
:thumbsup
Same here.

I prefer the 6 spd manual, because I get 2 more gears over the 48RE which was the automatic available when I bought my truck.

2 more gears gives me 2 more options depending on road conditions.

Basically,if you want to race, get the auto,if your towing all the time I'd go manual.

Stick it in "D" for dattaway. I used to love rowing the gears, but not anymore.

If you are going to use the truck for plowing get an Automatic. If you have never plowed with a Manual, it is a total nightmare. But if the truck is being used as a Diesel is intended, then get a Manual, more options, and more reliablity.

Mine is a 6 speed manual, and that's the way I like it. The lack of control with a slush-matic just drives me nuts.

Thanks

I really want a stick so Im going for one

I work on and Golf Course in Turf care and the odd time they need somethin towed or hauled

Also I work for a landscape company

So I might be towing with them and plowing in the winter (plowing most likely with one of the bobcats I might tow)

I got a manual automatic.

All the downsides of a regular automatic, only you have to shift it manually!

And you fishtail sideways whenever you shift in the rain...

And you can't shift without getting pulled over if you are within 1000 feet of a cop...

6 speed. i had a 05 auto and kept having tranny troubles. and if your a good enough shifter you can run with the autos and beat them.

The numbers seem to contradict that statement. :T:

Row, Row, Row your truck,
Slowly down the track,
By the time you get to the end,
The auto's been there and back!
