I'm getting ready to order the aurora 5000 kit for the 6.7 , and I was wondering how safe a non wastegated turbo will run on my truck without studs ?

I won't have a chance to install the studs until the end of December , but the truck is needing a turbo now . I'm running a mini maxx with Dave Matthews tuning.

If Dave does a good job tuning it you will be fine. If your worried about too much boost in the meantime just have him write you a mild tune I would say keep the boost below 45-50 without studs.

Thank you , I already have the tunes on the truck. I could just keep it On the more conservative tunes, I was just a little worried about it because the turbo is capable of 70lbs of boost . But on stock fueling I shouldn't even come close to that . I hope.

The 5000 is going to be a bit laggy your going to want a newer tune to help light that thing anyway.

It's really depends on what you want out of the truck. Lots of HP or just an aggressive daily driver. The 66 is a pretty good turbo to and lights a lot easier.

Stay away from the 66. Especially 300 based t3.

I'm looking for a aggressive daily driver, probably never see a track or dyno.

It's a g56 truck that hardly gets driven and when it does its hauling a stock trailer. my vgt turbo is taking a crap now , getting stuck open building 45lbs of boost and god knows what kind of drive pressure.

T3 is smaller than stock. And a lot of ppl complain about the surging. A 6.7 spins a bigger charger real easy.

RSD has a deal right now the a5k and a t4 ats manifold for 2100bucks which is right at my budget for this project

That's pretty good. I spent about 2700 on my 2nd gen 467 swap from Source.

I already have a intake and I think for my use the 3rd gen manifold and a5k should work well .

Will my flo pro down pipe match up with the a5k?

You shouldnt have too much of a problem spooling that a5k. My buddy has a box s472 on his g56 and it spools quite nice. Better than my auto does spooling my s472. Anyways I would agree wit diesel duner. Stay away from an s366 series turbo. Especially if you plan on adding fuel down the road.

I talked with Patrick at ATS a 1 1/2 year ago about this same question. He told me I'd have to find an exhaust elbow off an 04-06 cummins for the exhaust to work. Unfortunately I can't remember exactly what year? Sorry.

The kits now come with the correct cast iron elbow to fit your downpipe (Holset HE351 for 04.5-07 5.9's). That allows the 5000 to fit your aftermarket exhaust.

It won't lag that much. It'll spool almost as quick as the 66's, but is a much larger turbo. Also, please be aware these kits are designed for the 3rd Gen Body Style. Where this comes into play is with the charge pipe we supply. You'll need to shorten the supplied charge pipe to work with the new body style.

This thread shows pictures of how we shortened it in the shop -
