For over 20 years I've exclusively run Amsoil ATF in all my vehicles, both light & medium duty trucks and cars (no Dodge's yet). It's always served me very well, so naturally I plan on converting my recently purchased '95 Dodge Cummins truck to Amsoil ATF too. But since reading up on Dodge transmissions on this forum, I've found that the only ATF fluid recommended for Dodge auto trans is ATF+4. According to Amsoil, their ATF meets the requirements of nearly all vehicle manufacturers, including Dodge, so has anyone out there successfully or unsuccessfully used Amsoil in this application? I'm inclined to think Amsoil ATF will be just fine but before I pull the trigger, I thought I'd get some feedback from those who have actually tried it. My truck has a 47RH trans. Thanks

My transmission was rebuilt last year by a guy on another forum I'm on and he has his own at home rebuild shop. basically I pulled the transmission and brought it to him, and he rebuilt it in a week in his garage. He works on all ford and dodge diesel transmissions and said he used to work at the local Cummins shop.

He recomended amsoil for the transmission and encouraged me to use it.

ATF+4 is a licensed and trademarked fluid that is made with Chrysler's permission by several different companies. If Amsoil does not have ATF+4 it is because they have not paid for the formula. I would only use it if Amsoil states in writing that their ATF meets all manufacturer's specifications.

Amsoil is a great product, better than the mopar. They just aren't going to pay dodge to have the label on their oil.

Thanks for the input. Basically what I'm hearing is that Amsoil ATF is as good or better than ATF+4, but just not offically recommended. I agree. But I'd still like to hear from members who are actually running Amsoil ATF, and their results, whether good or bad.

I dont like the idea of swapping types of ATFs once in a trans, but thats jmo.

I run DexIII in all my transmission and the ones i build for others. I wouldnt bother swapping to amsoil if it were mine, unless it was a dry trans after a rebuild. Not saying that you will have an issue, just how i feel about it personally.

I have used AMSOIL ATF+4 for 15 years in my 1996-2500, 2001-3500, and now in my 2007-3500. I have never had problems with the fluid. I did loose one torque convert in the 2001 which required to transmission rebuild, and that transmission had to be rebuilt again because the shop did not torque the valve body properly and lost the second transmission six months after the first rebuild. Al my trucks normally are pulling a trailer 75 percent of the time. I have a 12,000 lbs cargo trailer that I use for my AMSOIL business that usually has 5,000 to 6,000 lbs of oil in it, and I have 15,000 pound camper that is pulled about 5,000 to 8,000 miles a year. My transmission temperature is usually around 125 to 140 degrees pulling my camper. I have never seen 200 degrees on the transmission gauge.
