bump for the ATF discussions back in the day.... was looking for a thread starter relating to ATF & white smoke & what I thought was rough idle &/or blowby... wanted a refresh on what was tired and found to work.

FWIW, the replacement injectors that went in on my truck (referencing the images of the tips & atf usage) are still going strong, unclear on # of miles since the install but i vaguely recall 325k or so being the install mileage... at 443k now and 100% of their life in the truck to date has been nothing but 2SO & the ATF, aka the mix.

I started using atf because of reading your threads , it works ! I dump a quart of dex to a full tank every now and again and always will .

thats a lot of atf... just 8oz is all i use every other tank or so. hope your running bio or the 2so....

Nah , just regular diesel . I do it about every 10 tanks or so .

443K. Getting some miles racked up! Good to see this resurrected. I continued to use 16 oz 2SO and Diesel Kleen every fillup until I sold the '05 about 2 years ago. It was running great and had a little over 300K on it, and I only sold it due to the rust coming back, again.

Which leads me to ask if applying these additives should change in any way with my current '10 truck? Out of habit, I have continued adding the 2SO and Diesel Kleen, and later switched from the Diesel Kleen to Hot Shot's Secret EDT.

I have not added any ATF to this one, as it has never seemed to need it. I did run a bottle of the Hot Shot's Secret Diesel Extreme. This is an "every 6 months" treatment. I didn't notice any change. This doesn't say anything against the product, I just think the fuel system is already pretty clean. Again, where I live B11 is common which is supposed to be a good cleaner itself.

Not sure if the ATF is OK with the DPF equipment in there, that would be an experiment. I do know I ran a TDI 45k miles with the 2SO with zero issues to the DPF ash level (kept track of it). Truck now gets to sleep in a garage at night... Oh BOY! a garage! Should live on for many years to come... (fingers crossed and lots of maintenance)

Mine doesn't have DPF. I think they added that starting in '13 ?? Anyway, my truck has been to Mexico, where some items fell off and it runs much better now!

A garage is a luxury no truck should have to do without.

Your thinking DEF fluid, the DPF's came in 07.5 along with the 6.7 motor.

Agreed, the truck is the greatest asset since it gets me to work and it should be in the garage... for the last 5 years it was under a carport, best option at the time.

That’s one lucky girl. Mines outside in the southern Alabama sun year round.

Kinda depends on who you talk to. Some people say not to put any ATF or 2SO in your fuel tank. It's one of those things that you'll have to decide for your self after researching.

YES! Hops n Drops has the best locally, top 5 in my book... they season the beef & cook it a certain way (use some sort of temp controlled press thingy)

Ive ran howes and done the seafoam in the fuel bowl truck so far. Maybe this will be the winner.

run 16 more oz of the 2SO...

And dont expect anything for 200~300 miles... will depend on how your injectors are, if no change felt, then there were no issues with them. Also, if your running high HP/TQ, you may not feel anything as the changes would be low compared to engine output.

Injectors are a year old and SHOULDNT be an issue but for peace of mind ill try it. Truck just had exhaust and edge jwa.

I have (fuel) smoke at cold idle and it runs rough right after first start until i get going and its fine until the next cold start

325k miles amd has.more than normal blow by. Im pretty sure its rings but this is cheap enough to try for funsies.

And yes mprop is new bosch unit.

Oil analysis shows 0 fuel in oil.

Are you using the ATF every other tank or it is constant 2so and ATF every tank? I ma researching maintenance and not necessary a cleans.

I was doing every tank and have backed down to every other tank... or so. Once its clean, it takes a bit to start getting "not so clean", a shot of the mix in the next fill up takes care of it.

It does however effect ignition delay a tad bit and will effect mpg's depending on the tune. For me, it gets better with the mix in by about 0.5 mpg's. Keep in mind I have a 37 gal capacity with the vent kit & fill ups are all the way up the fill tube every time.

Also, since the cam & crank sensor swap, after getting the tune dialed back in, mpg's are a solid 21.x mpg... worst tank recently was a 21.3 IIRC.
