When are they needed? what's so much better about them then the ones half the price??

They have a different coating and have more tensile strength and clamping force. The standard 2000's are good for 90% of 5.9 guys, they're more needed for the 6.7 guys.

Ya my overall goal is 750hp, hoping the 425s will work
You'll be fine.

or you could go with H11 they run about $750 vice 1.2k. the bad side is they are more prone to rust/corrosion due to lack of coating. Which only applies to 8 studs of 26 due to the fact that they are out side of the rocker housing. You could coat them but 425s would work fine for most people.
I wouldn't worry with running arp2000's. Many guys have made impressive 800-900hp with them. And as said about H11-HD's are the next best thing. The H11 material DOES NOT stretch. You can retorque them multiple times if you have to pull the head for any reason.
that's good to know!! the truck doesn't get driven in the winter (got a beater neon/gas saver), but I would like to find a 4x4 reg cab first gen. So anyways this winter the trucks a project to make a reliable and daily drivable 750 hp and hopefully enter DPC15 or 16 hahah I don't know maybe I'm just dreaming.
Anyone can enter, getting in is a different story haha.
Dreams are good man! As long as they turn into goals ;)

If that is you dream, build it WAY stronger than you can imagine. Everything. Some will shoot me for saying this but go with twins. Quick spooling twins like compound bb Garrett's. Build it for 850rwhp all day and drive it all the time. Basically it's whoever stays together and knows/can drive their truck the best is the most competitive. Build it now so you can iron out the wrinkles over time
I think with in the last 2-3 weeks I have multiply threads and it seems like everybody has mix feeling bout every stud beside the 625, I have read people saying 425s r the same thing as arp 2000s, H11 have rusting issue, the 425s snapping off in the heads just way to many mixed results for me to remember, I'm in same bout as other and looking for a max of no more then 750rwhp, and like the piece of mind and insurance of 625s but can justify over 900.00 for a set of head studs

because they are the same thing......425s is the make believe internet name for ARP 2000s..... why, hell if i know, i would guess 625s has to do with the material used, maybe not. But there actually are no 425s
Arp 425's and arp 2000's are the same thing. For 85-90% of folks the 425's are just fine.
So how do u proceed to clamp a head without snapping a 425??? The last thing I want is to try to prevent pulling the head installing studs and snapping it off flush in the block and have to pull the motor and send it to the machine shop
Gotta admit I've never heard about someone snapping a head stud. Only possible way I could imagine that is they were lame brain and shouldn't even be looking at an engine let alone working on it. If someone snapped a head stud I wouldn't even let them put air in my tire..
Someone with a torque wrench that doesn't work will and or could possibly break one. Some people don't know how hard or soft 130 ft lbs is.
There is a few who have broken 12mm 625s going to 165 ft/lb or more. There is a set of 14mm 625s on sale in classifieds on CompD.
couple of trucks made over 800 hp with the 425 and stock head gaskets.... and 10 sec passes
The stock head gasket is more than fine as long as you have clamping force, MLS gaskets have been proven to hold 1000+

Agreed! I know a hand full.

I had 425's for 3 years... I now have 625's... If you have no plans for semi big numbers then the 2000's are fine.... But, if you have the money, its a no brainer 625's all the way... Just a side note, my 425's looked like shiat when i pulled them, very corroded and such...ive also seen a handfull of 425's brake..
