I just got a set of used fender flares off a larime truck and wanted to know if they just bolt on or do I need 3m tape for the top of them. They are in route so I haven't seen them yet. Thanks guys.

they just bolt on using the screws that are already in the fender if you desire you can get a plastic push pin for each flare for the top middle. on the rear ones you will have to remove the plastic piece that is attached to the truck before installing the flares.

Actually they come from the factory with 3M tape on them

I personally would use it as it seals to the body and will not scratch your paint

When I took mine off was a biatch!! Didn't come off easily but I got it!

They don't come with tape just as a new oem part. That's wierd, usually all moldings, flares, ect come with tape if required. I do agree that the tape would protect your paint though. If not that, then some sort of edging like bushwacker uses or the stuff used to protect door edges.

I have a set of new take-offs, they definitely have 3m tape on the outer edge to seal to the body, mine still have the old tape attached. It's hellacious to get off. I have scraped most of it off, have some 3m remover to try and get the rest off.

You need tape about a quarter inch wide. I ordered 3m part number 06386, about $22 for 60ft roll. I think I got it from amazon....it's for auto moldings.

My OEM 3rd gen ones had a spot for tape I think (didn't use it though), I just bolted them on. They did however have a thin strip of black rubber to protect the paint on the truck from getting marred up. Do the 4th gen OEM ones have this same rubber strip around them? Doesn't sound like it...

If anybody could post an up close picture or a picture of the back side of one not installed that would be sweet.

Easy to take off, I pulled mine off right after I got it home from the dealer and sold them. THere is 3M body molding tape on them. Remove all teh screws and the one plastic pop rivet. Then start and one and and work your way around pealing off of the truck. Then just use some adhesive remover or a 3M wheel that will remove the adhesive for you. Does not take long at all.

I finally decided to put flares on mine and checked with the dealer first o there prices. $177 per flare (just one) lol and thats not paints. I ended up getting the extenda flares from bw. Painted and al was $500. I did put 3m tape on the back side to prevent scratches.

My laramie mega cab had the flare delete option on the sticker. I went on ebay and order some take offs for dirt cheap that were color matched. Stupid easy to install

They bolt on but you alsdo need the tape to secure them to the body. Install witht he tape in place, then pull off the plastic to make it stick.
