44newman, any idea what position indicates neutral? Or does park also work? And would park just be all the way out, the resting position? If so has anyone duplicated the resistance so we don't have to leave the whole sensor under the truck?
Park is all the way in, neutral two clicks out. Resistance for park is less than 5 Ohm (shorted), neutral is 108.6 Ohm. Resistance is between pins 2 and 5 on the TRS.

I have a question I hope you can answer. I just got all the mechanical done on my 2004.4 from auto to 6 speed. On the Smarty Jr did you have to buy a software update for the Smarty Jr to reflash auto to manual transmission.
I've read that the Jr does not have the capability. Call Smarty for more info. And yes, you will have to get them to make you a recovery file, no it's not free.

Good luck in getting anything from Smarty. I have had 3 emails over 7 months from them each of them over a month apart and only a reply when i remind them im still waiting to hear. They most certainly didnt seem interested in helping me, i have emailed the address i had for Bob Wagner and the sales department and still nothing for the last 2 months.
I have given up and just completed the wiring myself. I have wired the truck to run with the PCM still plugged in but the neutral safety (connected to the clutch) interupted by a toggle switch. I flick the switch to start it then switch it off, i then have full cruise control and disengages cruise when push the clutch in.
I have a resistor in line on the wire.

I will add another wire with a different resistor to simulate neutral so i can select it via switch for engaging 4WD Low.

With the PCM connected you will get trouble codes for trans temp etc however they are not hard codes and will not cause any rough running or lack of power issues in the truck. Nor will they create any engine warning lights.

I would also like to say thanks for the youtube videos, they were such a big help in completing this.
This is done on my 2003.5 from 48re to G56.

Best of luck.

Brian got me my recovery file in less than a day and helped me diagnose an issue same day. SmartyResource is the best way to get a hold of them.

What about using the phone to make a phone call to them? Might make things go easier.

Did you end up doing the swap? Just wondering if anything went different with the 07 compared to the write up I buying an 07 soon it’s and want to swap it. I know I could just get a manual but I feel I found the truck with the right price, condition and miles, for me with the only exception being the auto trans. Also, I work overseas so I would rather be home in the garage doing this swap with my family. Instead of traveling the country looking at trucks to buy over my 1 month home out of every 4 months.

OP your the reason I’m going to get this truck if it hadn’t have been for the video I would have passed on a great deal.

04.5 cruise issue solved. On the 50 pin connector. Put the number 7 pin wire in number 36. Cruise worked perfectly for us. Hope this helps

Hello everyone,

I just done know why there aren't more people in the US driving manuals. Mechanically speaking it is a simpler transmission than an auto and yes, I see the "comfort" part of driving an auto. Give it gas and it goes. But....you also have to give yourself some gas when it comes time to rebuild. Clutch is much easier and cheaper to build than an auto trans.

Wish more people did this.

Anyone know of someone selling a 2006 and up with manual? They are rarer than common sense.

You would have to change the entire engine harness since the transmission wiring is integrated into the main engine harness to the ECM. In this thread, they changed harnesses but I'm not sure if that really gained anything for them: 05 manual to auto/auto to manual swap complete step by...

Even still, you would need to splice in the clutch saftey switch under the dash as the wiring is not there to connect it into the dash harness.
I just swapped my 2005. I got the 4 wheel drive indicator and the reverse lights working. I would like to get some info on getting the CSS wired up. I ran a wire from the yellow wire up to the CSS and grounded the other wire from the switch to the body and the truck will start with or with out the pedal engaged.. any info would be very helpful.. I got 2 little ones that I don't want to be able to start the truck in gear

that wire that you grounded by the trans to get it to start... run that thru the CSS and you should be good to go.
