Pardon¿
Maybe you can explain the mods required for the Dodge manual tranny?
... Or are you just talking about the clutch?

I'm sure even the stock Ford clutch will not stand up to 450 HP or more.
Just referring to the clutch upgrade. Based on the other posts on here.

You said that is the downside of the Dodge, sp Ford clutches are good for 400+ HP at the wheels?

Fisherguy, you not had your coffee? I gave my response to a pwrstroke owner that was asking for info on the dodge. As a recent pwrstroke owner myself, I know where he was coming from by asking for any 'troubled' areas involving the CTD. I in no way am saying that any of these trucks are bullet proof. If he (or you) will read the pwrstroke forum and this one, you will find that my response was to the point. The ford 6.0s require ALOT of upgrades just to keep from going into self destruct. The dodges dont. But a CTD owner needs to pay attention to the tranny as he tweaks the engine. (more-so then a pwrstroke owner) To the rest of the forum, my apologies for having to be so specific in my response.

I'm having my coffee right now thanks (2nd cup).

All I'm asking now (for the 3rd time) is how the Ford clutch holds up to added power compared to the stock Dodge clutch? You make it sound like the Dodge stockers are weaker.

Just curios, but not enough to go check out any PS forums...

from what I've gathered, the clutches seem to hold pretty well for the fords. The AT trannies give very few problems until major mods are made and/or abused excessively. The clutches are rated by torque, not hp. I dont know what the factory clutches are rated at. From alot of posts on here, it would seem that the factory clutch in the dodges do tend to slip with mild to moderate programmers. But having said all that. I'm glad I made the switch. I'd rather know that I'd need a tranny if I treat it bad, then to not know if my engine was gonna blow a gasket on the way to work. lol

You are pretty much spot on w/ the trannies on Dodges when adding power. The manual can handle a little more than the autos before upgrading. The manual usually all you need is to upgrade the clutch/hydralics and be done. The autos will take a couple to a few grand to get it to hold more HP.

I know the newer Ford auto trannies hold better than the Dodges. If you plan on putting more HP in a new to you Dodge w/ an auto. Upgrade the TC & VB w/ 100hp or under for daily driving w/o abusing w/ racing (boost launches) and/or sled pulling. If you want more then it will start costing and replacing the stock shafts.

I read somewhere there's no room in the new 6 speed autos for bigger shafts so the new ones are a little worse for big HP.

Thanks for the help. And thanks for making it specific.
My Lariat is so much more comfortable then the dodge. We do long trips, so that is a big factor. How do you guys make these more comfortable? Front and back for the quad cab

I fully agree with you on the comfort part. I have an 03 ford crew cab with a 6.0 in my sig and it is really nice to drive and haul everybody on long trips, but I have to pack my whole tool box around because I don't trust the engine at all. I have had several dodges with cummins engines all the way from 1st gens which were like driving a park bench to 2nd gen 12 and 24 valves and I owned one 3rd gen 24 valve that I did not like a much hence that is why the second truck in my sig is an 02 which I love but is not very comfortable for more than two people. I have been thinking of swapping in an ISB into my 03 useing parts from de-stroked.com or ford cummins, plenty of room in the engine bay for upgrades and the truck should last for 100's of thousands of miles. You are probably already very privey to what makes 6.0 so sick, I know when I plugged off the EGR and cleaned the varible veins on my turbo my truck has monsterous power and mileage is 18-21 down the highway but its still not as good as my cummins:banging:

The Lariat I had before this truck was a 1990 so this is an improvement! :hehe:

Depends on what seats you have. The leather ones in the Laramie are fine IMO and in the winter when the temp is down to -20 the heater in them rocks:worthy:
