Anybody running alto red eagles and kolene steels in their autos? Iv been told by many that this is the only rebuild kit they would run and it's half the price of the big names!
It seems like every aftermarket tranny shop runs them. I'd rather have Rayobestos blue plate clutches and Kolene steels! The blue plates are gaurenteed not to burn up or slip!! They are Kevlar coated. But they are EXPENSIVE!!!
last batch of the raybestos ones we were getting ready to stack the overdrive in my trans when it just wasn't lining up after a few tries. Took the plates over to the granite in the shop and they looked like Pringle chips. It got the alto's after that.
My extreme duty rebuild kit from Suncoast had Red Eagle clutches with Kolene steels...never had a problem with them yet, I've been running them for almost 5 years now.
This is on a truck thats stock except for a boost elbow with 222k miles.
I just had my trans rebuild with the alto/kolene black steels. I expected a clutch pack like this to be very aggressive with the apply. But between that and the sonnex sure cure valve body rebuild its a smooth shift that doesnt feel weak. If that makes any sense.
That, it also helped with the extremely long delay in putting the truck in gear and it applying. So far Im extremely pleased with how it came out.
You should search all the big name tranny companies. They all have their master rebuilt kit with these clutches and steels. DTT, Goerend, Suncoast, Garmon, Revmax. ATS uses their own set of friction baked material and steels.
