well ide test the alternator with a meter to make sure its not acting up, but always replace batteries in pairs. Or so i was taught..

Guys,
My buddie has a 2002 2500 4x4 with 126k miles on it. The other day the alternator guage maxed out to the positive side. Stayed that way for 1hr then it went back to normal, it did this two more times on the same trip. Drove it the other day on a short time and it worked fine. Any suggestions? Also, recentally changed the batteys tested them and only one tested bad, so he only replaced one of them could this be a problem? Thanks for your help
