Air Leak?

1417 Views 10 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  timbeeker
Wondering if anyone has had this problem?
When I park my truck with the nose uphill it takes forever to start, but when I park so the nose is downhill it pops right off.
I am suspecting a air leak somewhere, I am currently running off a jug on the fenderwheel to eliminate the rear fuel lines.
Also my FSS is gutted.

Thanks

If you think you may be sucking air into the fuel system it doesn't matter which way you would park. It's the air pocket that is in the fuel filter that makes it hard to start.

Try bleeding the fuel filter before starting it after it has sat for a few hours. If air bubbles come out your sucking in air somewhere before the LP.

Any chance there could be an air leak after the pump?
Leaks downstream of the lift pump should show as fuel leaks when the motor is running.

The LP can leak air, or leak fuel externally or into the crankcase.

Lift pump is new, I will check more closely for any leaks.

Thanks
If you had air in your filter and you tried to start it you could have pushed it into the IP, it has to go somewhere if you don't bleed it out of the filter.

bump, did you get this issue sorted?:stirpot:

Not yet but today I am going to look more closely at the preheater.
Been working on swapping IPs

injection pump? is that a VE on your motor? is it possible its pulling air around the boost diaphragm on top of the pump? sorry, not that learned with the cummins yet, so excuse my noob question....:confused013: anyways hope you get it worked out....J&J

The only places to suck air into the fuel system is between the LP and fuel tank module. It will push fuel out from the LP to the injectors if there is a leak anywhere.

If you changed the LP and didn't bleed the filter to get all the air out then you pushed it all into the IP.

Mine pours fuel out of the throttle shaft, if it sits I have to get it pumped back up.
Should have a seal kit today.
