Hey guys-

Just did my initial install of my new head unit(appradio 4) replacing factor nav and keeping factory alpine setup. So far so good but I am OCD and I hate extra stuff and extra wires so I want to try the following:

--Use the factory gps antenna instead of have to hook up an after market one?

--Adapt the factory backup camera to work with aftermarket head unit.

Any help or suggestions would be great.

What are the advantages you are looking at to make you want the aftermarket stereo. Not criticizing just wondering. Maybe I'm too old but AC/DC sounds awesome to me on the factory stereo.

Yes, you can use the factory GPS antenna, instead of having to go through the trouble of installing an aftermarket antenna. I haven't done this, but have read plenty of threads where people just popped the yellow connector deal off the antenna, and it plugs right into the aftermarket tuner.

If the factory backup camera has the same connections that your aftermarket stereo needs, then that shouldn't be a problem. I know my after market stereo needs only a video input. The after market camera has separate ground and power wires.

You'd be surprised at the advantages of an aftermarket stereo. As far as double din units, you have much better navigation, bluetooth connectivity, more power to drive the speakers, front and rear cameras, much better control over EQ, subwoofers, sound enhancements, etc. In addition, several after market stereos have features you can't find on the stock stereo, such as apps specifically for Pandora that utilize the same controls, such as like/dislike, stations, etc, so you can use the stereo instead of having to use your phone.

Do the aftermarket stereo's integrate with the buttons on the steering wheel?

Depends largely on which stereo you buy, but if they support steering wheel controls (SWC) you usually have to buy an additional adapter if the interface you use does not have the SWC interface. The adapter I bought for my truck is the PAC C2R-CHY4 because I have an aftermarket Nav/DVD player, and no SWC, but I am pretty sure you can get the RP4-CH11 from PAC and it includes the SWC interface as well. Don't buy directly from them, look around on Amazon or eBay for the best deals.

Thanks. This mobile app doesn't show sigs for some reason. It appears there's zero options for a 13+ 8.4 aftermarket replacement (Alpine makes one for Silverado (@ 9") and some Fords, but at $3k, I'm going to have to live w/ the factory 8.4 even if Alpine allows us into the club).
