Aftermarket exhaust brake question??

1943 Views 20 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  frankzappa
I have tried researching this, but haven't been able to find any firm answers (maybe I'm looking in the wrong places):

Does anyone make an inline exhaust brake that will plug and play and work in conjunction with the factory ECU EB management system and dash switch?

To my knowledge nobody has done it commercially yet. The inline brakes Ive seen just use an auxiliary on/off switch. We have thought about trying this in the future with our 2nd gen swaps. It would be a matter making plug in adapters and trying some tuning magic to make it happen.

I'm working on it. I've got to sit my butt down and get busy. Also need to get my 2nd gen swap done so you and I, Kevin, and I'm sure Rich also can be the test monkeys for it. I've got it mapped out in theory and I'm pretty sure it will work. Just need a couple if more hours in the day.

I have a 2nd gen 467 swap and will be installing a direct turbo mount exhaust brake tomorrow. I have a G56 so I am just using a switch mounted to the shifter. I talked to pacbrake and they are working on a kit right now to work with S400 turbo's. It will work with the stock switch.

Get it done man! i would do the 2nd gen if the brake worked with the button over the ATS kit if i had to choose.

I thought you said you were going to go the route of the ATS add a turbo kit last i heard!! :stirpot:
I imagine an S400 kit with exhaust brake that functions off the ECM signal would really bode well with people electing to keep their DPF and EGR functional. (coupled with the ATS 2nd gen manifold that has EGR provisions)

Talk about really opening up the market to more options, and at the same time contributing to the most likely future of tuning. Win win.

Dude I'm worse than a woman sometimes :rof. I had it in the shop ready to go changed my mind. Plus I live for challenges and making the 2nd gen kit work with an exhaust brake is one I like. I did alarms, DVDs, stereos and even VCR installs (God I'm old). I love electrical work in vehicles, done it for a long time. Plus it keeps me from pulling my inner 16 year old out and putting a huge stereo in my truck...........for now.

And just by saying VCR installs will really date you brother!

Only thing holding me back right now is funding. Mama already said i can do whatever i want to the truck because its mine! so i just save save save and then call you guys for some hard parts and fresh tuning

Good luck guys i hope you get it all nailed down so its all just plug and play!

Im tuned in for details.

It will be plug in play. Garaunteed. Frank's coming down here for a week or so after the new year. I bet that's when we nail it down and get a working prototype..
Great news! so you guys are going to go wild in the mad science lab…I'm jealous.

i would love to be a fly on the wall in there to absorb everything you guys throw around.

stupid job!
God only knows will come out of Draconian Mafia Headquarters at that time. If we can get Ray there also it will be epic.
Yeah that would only make it better.

Is that the only thing you guys are working on or is there more? :stirpot:

You never know...I might could work something out. If we got together around the 23rd of January, we could have a "lordy lordy ray's forty party"!

We are always working on more! I'm running something different on my truck every week to see how I like it. Matter of fact I've got a transmission tune with a few alterations loaded now that I absolutely love!

Nope. We have a few more things up our sleeve. I won't call myself a 4th Gen specialist or anything cause I am always learning. If you ever quit learning you're not doing any good for the world anymore. These trucks never cease to amaze me on what we can do with them.

Ray welcome to the 40 club. It's all joint pain and grey hair from here.

can you guys share what is new with Ray's tranny tune or is that for a later date?

I hate to pry, but like Frank said, if we stop learning we are not doing our part!
