I bought a '13 Tradesman earlier this year and only have one concern about it. The only gauges it has are fuel and DEF (full time). Is there a gauge set available to monitor the other things we normally keep up with? I see the Edge and other things advertised but I don't want to alter the way it drives and mainly I don't want to risk voiding the warranty.
Any thoughts appreciated.

I think the edge insight is for monitoring only and reads off the factory probes. I've got mechanical boost/pyro gauges. Never had warranty issues.

We just installed an Edge Insight CTS. It's a monitor-only system, and gives you all of the gauges that you want. We used their pillar mount, and added their backup camera. It works, and since there is no ability to program it won't hurt the warranty. It does have the ability to read and clear DTC's too.

I'd go this route if I had to do it over, could use a backup cam to see around that big butt. :hehe:

Thanks RamGunner. I'm glad to hear from someone who has used it. By the way, what is a DTC? I'm too old and not in touch with all the acronyms.
Diagnostic Trouble Code. It's mandatory to have a dtc reader with these trucks to clear pesky codes and know if there's something major going on. I have a handheld reader that I keep in the truck.

I also have the Edge Insight. Since they updated it a few months ago (a user-installable firmware update), it's now got three screens. It's still not as customizable as I'd like (but few things are - I'm a nut), but I think it's the best gauge product out there. It's also got some very neat alarm features - you can set an alarm for most of the things it can read. For example, you can set an alarm for one of the downstream EGT probes, and you'll always know when you get a regen...

Does the Edge require extensive wiring for install? Curious on install? Got any pics of where you put it and how it looks?

It has a single cable that runs from the unit down to the OBD II connector under the steering column, which provides power and the data feed for the gauges.

I mounted it using the windshield suction cup on the very left edge of the windshield and ran the cable down beside the door frame.

There are a couple of pics here and here...

If I was to get the edge insight cts, would I also need to get the egt probe to monitor the egt ?

Here is a link to the Instruction Manual. The section on EGT starts on page 51. http://edgeproducts.com/installation_guides/83830_A.pdf.

Their manual states "The Dodge 6.7 Cummins is not equipped with a pre-turbo EGT sensor. It is however equipped with three EGT sensors down-stream from the turbo. All of these sensor’s readings are available for display on the CS and CTS. However they are not an accurate representation of combustion chamber temperatures."

They recommend using their pre-turbo EGT sensor which you can optionally install. We didn't elect to do so.

Do they have a turbo-timer feature? You know: Turn off key, remove it, lock up and truck runs for a few minutes (preferably user configurable time).

Very cool product, I will be reading up on this one. Thanks

I was going to buy a Laramie, but now I have changed gears and am thinking of a Tradesman. But I REALLY like the look of the better dash display. But this makes a lot of sense to me. This would be my first Diesel, so I'm not sure what things i should be monitoring and why. Any hints or advice would be great. Thanks

I doubt it as you would need to tap into the ignition system when doing that. This just seems to plug into the OBD2 port. So it just gets live data from the ecm.

Right now, I keep track of the Engine Coolant Temp and Transmission Temp - two dedicated gauges that should NEVER have been left off of any trim level on a vehicle designed to tow. You should not have to push buttons or scroll through menus to see things as vital as these.

I also keep their mileage coach up to compare to the EVIC mileage calculator, and it shows me the transmission gear and TC lockup state, and the battery voltage. I also get a red R on the screen when a regen is taking place. All of this is on one screen. There are other screens that you can setup too.

It automatically switches to the backup camera if I put it into reverse, and I can manually select that too.
