I hadn't seen this happen on a Dodge yet, but I have on a couple of Fords. One disappeard completely while the other fell onto the sway bar and stayed there until it made it to the shop.
X2 yes yesi gotta see a pic of this, i've never seen it before.
If I can figure out how to post a pic I'll put one up.i gotta see a pic of this, i've never seen it before.
I've had cars and trucks that were 40 years old with the factory a6 compressors and clutches, this is a joke that the factory, dealer , or somebody needs to be responsible for. I'm tired of engineers designing crap to break on purpose at our expense. EVERYBODY needs to just quit buying new vehicles for a few years to teachem a lesson.. Lets see how they like that!! The prob., just like the gas-outs we were "supposed" to have, is that NOBODY will participate. That's why we all get "played" like we do... sad but true....X2 yes yes

I took a mirrow also and saw the bolt broke off. Nobody has the clutch by itself. Im just out of warranty. I am a bodyman and auto ac guy so at least i don't have to pay them to put it on. I really don't even want to buy the compressor from dodge since it's their design that made it break, the bolt diameter is too small. They lied to me and told me that they haven't seen this before, when on the forums guys like you and others have had it happen!! Thanks, Kevin...The plate on mine fell off after the small bolt holding it to the shaft broke in the shaft. I have no idea how it happened. It was about 20 months old with 34k miles. My friend thought it was going to be easy just get a new clutch and bolt it on till he took a mirror and light and saw that the bolt was broken recessed in the shaft. I took it in to the dealer they looked at it for 2 minutes and told me they would order a compressor. It ook 5 or so weeks for it to come in but they covered it under warranty.
You don't realize how hot it can get in the middle of the day till your AC breaks.
Kev.
Yes, it's a joke. I know there are issues with every kind of vehicle. I've decided to not ever buy another new one as long as I live... That's the only way I can get my satisfaction... If that's worth the price of a compressor to them then so be it... I'm tired of everything new being a piece of crap these days!! And I mean EVERYTHING!!!Yes, it's designed to break at 37k like mine did, they must have over built yours.
Dealer said they see it a lot.
I'll take a look, thanks!!I was able to find a replacement clutch kit on e-bay from coolzoneacparts. I just had the same thing happen. You will have to find a bolt to fit because the kit does not come with one. Hope this helps!
I have some new interesting info on the mysterious bolt breaking problem on the ac compressors resulting in loss of the front hub of the clutch.. My friend at the local dealership finally told me that dodge switch from sanden compressors to nipondenso compressors starting on their 06 models. That's when the problems with the bolt head snapping off started to be a problem. He said that dodge has tried for several years to get them to fix them but they have refused and said that this is a "normal wear issue".!! That's rediculous!!!!! A bolt breaking is not a normal wear or any kind of issue other that shi-ty material.... I bought a new compressor today and replaced the bolt with one that I bought from a fastener supply... It's stronger than the factory one.. It's M8 thread if anybody wants to change theirs before it breaks, and it WILL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's 15 cents.and worth it. Nipondenso needs a class action suit against them. I would like to know just how many of you guys have had so fork out 4 or 5 hundred bucks for the compressor and more for the labor... I'm interested to know...Yes, it's designed to break at 37k like mine did, they must have over built yours.

I found out that dodge started using nipondenso compressors instead of the tried and true sanden compressors in 06. Since then there are many of the bolts breaking off that hold the clutch on the front of the compressors. The result is having to replace the compressor which isn't cheap, especially if you have somebody do it. Dodge told me that they have been trying to get nipondenso to fix the prob and they say that the bolt breaking is "normal wear". Well, wear and failure are two different things. They have a contract to use their compressors. Something needs to happen. Is somebody out there familiar with what it takes to start a class action law suit??? I'm checking to find out. One really needs to happen.. If anybody has had this happen whether it was on warranty or not post it please!! We need to makem pay the piper for screwing us on purpose!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Well my ac quit workin today and I found that the front of the clutch decided to join my dpf. Has anybody else had one do this???? I just want to know if this should be a recall or something....
