First off let me say i know NOTHING about a/c its one thing i have never delt with and my dad was an automotive a/c guy for 30 years haha. Anyways its blowing fine and all and i can hear the compressor engaging and disengaging but its not cold. I figure with the miles it has it prob just needs freon. However before i throw freon into it i wanna see if it has a leak. Where do i start?

i would take it to a shop that does a/c repair and have them check it for $70.
if its a reputable shop they will credit the $70 towards repair if there needs to be any.

from what you describe it sounds like a leak in the system. may have ruined the compressor if its constantly cycling on and off.

cycling in and out is a sign of low freon, it wouldn't be low if you didnt have a leak. look for oil around the fittings and or compressor, the biggest mistake people make is not using their A/C in the winter time, the freon carry's the oil through out the sytem and they get dry rotted when not used.

:thumbsup I agree. A shop will put dye in the system and see if there is a leak. Cross your fingers that it is not in the evaporator. Thats a pricey fix if you have someone do it..

Cycling is definitely a low charge. O'reilly's sells a dye injection kit and UV light w/ glasses. If you want to attempt it yourself.

Thanks for the replys. It does not cycle on and off it does it just as its supposed to. And i believe it is just low. I think i may put a bottle of freon in it and see how long it lasts. If it doesnt work then i suppose i will have a friend of mine do it who is a mechanic

A/c Problems

CYCLING ON AND OFF DOES NOT ALWAYS MEAN ITS A LOW CHARGE A COMPRESSOR HAS TO CYCLE ON AND OFF IF NOT IT WOULD BURN UP AND YOUR A/C LINES WOULD BE FROZEN I JUST HAD A PROBLEM WITH MY 06 MEGA CAB I COULD HEAR THE A/C BLOWING AND IT WAS COLD UNDER THE DASH BUT VERY LITTLE WAS COMING OUT THE VENTS SO ANYWAYS I FOUND OUT ITS A COMMON PROBLEM ON THE DODGES THE RECIRCULATING VENT DOOR TAB BREAKS OFF THE MOTOR CAUSING IT TO STAY CLOSED AND BLOCK THE AIR FLOW THE WHOLE DASH HAS TO COME OUT BIG PAIN IN THE :ar15
