I have the opportunity to buy a 99 2500 diesel. The truck has 192,000 miles on it. Am i going to have problems with the truck or will it run good for a while. How many miles is the truck going to run?

the 99s have the 53 block which has been known to crack..it doesnt happen to many but its been known to happen..its one of those risks..oher then that the lift pump has been known to take a dive so a 600 dollar FASS and youll be good to go:thumbsup

other then that they re very solid truck and will run for a long time

what transmission?

The only fault I would know is fuel system...Check the psi at the filter out and make sure it has at least 8psi...If it has had an upgraded lift pump you should be good...BTW mine has 253k on it...Not looking for a rebuild anytime soon:thumbsup

Just to add, not all of them have 53 blocks. Just some of them. The post above just kind of sounded like all of them had it.

You can check for it. The number is stamped on the block in about 1" letters.

And as everyone else said, the fuel system is really the only other problem. But $600 later and that problem is pretty much gone.

I put 204000 miles on my 99. In that time it had 3 lift pumps, 2 VP44's the 5th gear nut fall off and a clutch. The front end was in dire need of some new parts and the seats were shot. I did love that truck though!!!!!!!

If it does not have a fuel pressure gauge then get the fuel system checked before you buy. Also ask about the 5th gear nut and if it was fixed yet because if not it will need to be. My truck had a 53 block towed HEAVY and never had a crack or used water.

BTW, it got 28 MPG city and 22 HGWY with a box and intake
