Yeah it will work I swapped one off of a 98 1500 gasser onto my 95 frame. Your on your own with the dash though I don't know anything about that I just put my 95 dash in it and took the wiring harness out of both my 95 doors and put them in the 98 doors the window motors and door switchs have the same plugs but not for the power mirrors.
The electrical system on a '98 is more like a 24 valve than a 12 valve because the '98 was supposed to have a 24 valve engine in it but it wasn't ready.
It would be a hassle to combine the electrical from any earlier 12 valve with a '98.
For sure it could be done but it won't be a matter of just plugging things in.
Most connectors are different, you'd have to figure which wire is which on either side of the connector and splice them together.
