I have found a 98 Dodge Cummins that i am interested in. I know my way around these trucks and the things to look for but I do not know what to value it at so I was hoping some of you guys could help me out there! Here is what it is:
1998 12 valve Cummins
Extended Cab Long Bed
Opening Rear doors
Newer style interior
Royal Blue
4X4
Automatic Transmission
New All terrain tires
Completely stock, old mans truck
1 owner
Arizona- original home
NO RUST
IMMACULATE BODY
Perfectly clean interior
Clean truck!
160,000 Miles

I have not started it to watch for blue smoke/rough start or ran it to feel for tranny slip or problems, i want to go in knowing what its worth. without really taking that into much consideration.

Thanks for any help!

if it was a stick, it'd be a "holy grail" like mine, and you could add on about 4k to the price.

The area you are in will make the price vary... I bought my in november of 2011. All the mods in my sig were on the truck when I bought it and the truck had 166,000 and almost new Cooper S/T Maxx tires. My truck has a spotless frame and very minimal rust. Couple spots bubbling on door bottoms. I paid $6500...the trans didn't slip but fried the clutches only 4 months after buying it. Cost $1400 to repair it. So take that for what it's worth. I'd say the truck you're looking at is excellent and I'd rate mine as good.

Its a 53 block, how much does that affect the value?

It is my understanding for some reason the 12 valves are not affected by the 53 block syndrome. I personally have no experience with this but it is what I heard I could have been misled

Some 12v are affected by 53 block considering they continued building 12v after the trucks went to 24v. They have 12v engines with vp44s too in generators forklifts and things of that nature. So as far as I know there are 12v trucks affected by the 53 block

To OP I purchased my 98.5 5 years ago with 103,??? For 10,000. If it is completely spotless and runs smooth pull carfax and ask for service records. Should be able to pick it up from 6-8 grand in opinion.

i believe they did keep making the 12v after they started the 24v, but not in our trucks. that's why a 98 is a 12v and a 98.5 is a 24v.

Started the truck on a 12 degree day and it was cold when we started it, hadnt been started, or plugged in, and I cycled it, turned it over and it started and ran like a top. No misses, no lope. NO BLue smoke! No blow by! No tranny slip, shifts great! Little oil around the valve covers, but no oil leaks. Coolant color is good. Never Never been turned up or ran hard. Steers good for a dodge too! It is a sport, were the sport trucks common in 98? After all of this, what is the value? What is it worth?

An Intense Blue Sport QuadCab longbed 12v....not a common rig, I can assure you that. 98 was the first year for the Sport package in the HD's, and they aren't very common. For a person seeking out a Sport, price would be a tad higher, but I'd say 9-10k is a fair price.

Buy it.

Still kick myself for not picking up that red QuadCab short box Sport 12v auto couple years ago:banghead:

Sounds like a great find, but it doubt that you are going to get any consistent value estimates. I just went through this with a 97 SLT 4x4 xcab LB auto 200k miles with paint issues but otherwise excellent condition. Came up with a value of $7500. Yours sounds nicer so I'd say $8500-$10000 or even more depending on how much YOU like the truck. If this is the body style and color you like keepin mind they aren't getting any easier to find in good condition.
