97 2500 power issues

864 Views 10 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  plvaulter06
My dad recently converted his 2500 4x4 into a dually and put a flat bed on it. The truck has a 5 speed and the only thing that has been done is we put a straight exhaust on it. What would any of yall suggest to add some power to help the ole 156,000 mile goat out. We are fixing to put a COI on it. Any other suggestions?

Fuel plate forward and adjust afc. gauges if you dont have them already first. I did this to my 96 and it was like a totally different truck.
whats a coi? i would look into a fuel plate
cold air intake

Maybe a stupid question? afc?
I have a S&B coldair intake, CFM+ upper intake, and a bully dog plate (came already installed on my truck) and it runs pretty well.

1.Get gauges
2.After gauges you can slide your stock plate (or grind up a more aggresive plate and slide it forward)
3.You already mentioned the Cold air...good idea
4.you can get a 5in turbo back exhaust for cheap w/ a 4in downpipe

Our 12 valves are cheap to mod. After you get a clutch you can get some nice injectors and it will really run
coo man. I talk to pops and we'll get working on it as soon as I rip out my DPF. Man did I screw up trading in my 02!:thud::CRY::kick::coocoo:sad2

:rof ... There not that cheap! ... Mine is getting mighty pricey

search afc housing. it is a free mod for the 12 valve
Some good ideas above.

Definitely get gauges (at the very least a pyrometer).

Resetting (advancing) the injection timing will help wake it up and improve mileage.

I see a dually trend in your sig line.

haha your truck is going to be ridiculous though!!! It was cheep even for you back in the days of grinding the fuel plate and adjusting the AFC.

They are still "cheep" to mod though in the sense of price compared to buying a $50k new truck :thud:
