my buddy is purchasing a 07 6.7. he asked me to get him set up to get more power and mileage.

he wants an intake, programmer and an exhaust( which may not be possible with the dpf).

the programmer doesnt have to be the most powerful but must turn the dpf and egr off.
I was thinking smarty was the only choice. can the PMT or BD GT do that?

I guess what i am saying is help me spend my friends money. there are only a few catches.
1. I have to be able to install it.
2. it still has to be able to tow and be a dd
3. he is still going to try to keep it some what in warranty shape (intake our dealer is cool with)

If you're going to turn off the DPF/EGR function you must remove the DPF & put in a delete pipe (or just get a turbo-back kit).

Neither the PMT or BD GT turn off the DPF/EGR function

Get a XRT or Smarty (search and read to choose)

EGT guage might be smart if he's going to tow much

Both the XRT & Smarty leave a "footprint" in the ECM - they are detectable.

IMO make sure your buddy realizes that deleting the DPF/EGR is a risk warranty wise - especially if something major breaks. (especially if his dealer is only cool with intakes)

Probably should have him register and read up on this forum......jmo

I just moded my new 2008 - Warranty!!

Hi, if you are concerned about warranty then you are in a grey zone. Just doing a programmer tune to your truck can get sticky if the dealer searches and finds it.

To do a dpf delete and then a tuner to turn of the Egr and regen's goes hand in hand.

I unplugged my egr solenoid valve and it just made me feel good. The truck still regen alot and fuel mileage sucked. I had to drive it like a mad man every couple of days. I had an edge to tell me when the truck needed to be regened.

An edge is not cheap. So if you throw your dollars towards a dpf delete stage II kit and an xrt tuner the first time, you will be money in. And then you can add air intake and dual exhaust after or the same time. But things add up quickly.

Your friend needs to do contact a few performances shops or do a little research on this site. All the info is here

Good luck with it

ok he is going to go with the XDI intake, H&S black max (when it comes out) and the H&S DPF delete turbo back exhaust. he said he isnt concerned about warranty as there is not even a year left.
is there anything else we will need to hook this up?
the other thing I wanted to know was about inspection. in NY they plug your truck into the computer for info and to see if there was any codes in a certain amount of time/key cycles. if he ran the black max and left it at the stock race tune and then unplugged it he should be ok for inspection correct?

Inspection should (I'm really not up to date on all states, but I know the what/whys/hows of the regulations behind them) only be concerned with if you have a code dealing with the exhaust treatment system. Most of the time, it would be an O2 sensor code (which the XRT turns the O2 sensors off anyways, so it shouldn't be an issue). Also, since the XRT turns off the EGR, I have yet to hear of an EGR related code popping up. I don't even know if the inspection centers are up to date on checking for EGR codes? Either way, you should be fine. Where I live, there are emissions tests (due to Ozone Non-Attainment) but most shops don't even have the proper code scanners to check for codes. There are even less reputable shops that will ignore a CEL for a few extra dollars....
