Your in the clear with a 96. I think 98 was the only year of the 12v that had the possibility of a 53 code block. My truck has a build date of 12/97 and is a 53 code block

Have you already seen/driven it? Did you already buy it? It sounds like a great find. My '96 is far from mint, but damned if it doesn't start up and run like a top. These trucks are fantastic. You made the right decision by reducing the number of valves.

Looks like a beauty. Does it have a non-ripped driver's seat and in-tact steering wheel? If so, I'd have to say it's about a close as it gets to "mint." Do you mind if I ask how much you got it for? These trucks got a lot cheaper once the fuel prices shot up, and they don't seem to be going back up (the prices of the trucks).

Also, I'm sure Mr. Garmin can beef up that tranny to make it stronger than any manual. The stock autos may not be the toughest units, but a well built version is actually pretty awesome. You're lucky to live near such a well-known builder!

They went from 1998 to 2000.

Where did you see the 53 on your block jtc1227???

Mine is from 11/97 (also a 98) and I don't see a 53 on mine.

On the driver side just above the oil pan. Same as on my 24v. Friend of mine has a 98 12v engine that is also a 53 code block.
