Have an 05 5.9 CR im lookin to do some injector upgrades. Nothing crazy. Im leaning more twards just the nozzles but cant seem to find much info on what it takes to get the common rail nozzles apart, and if there are any special tools needed. Ive read all about having a shop flow match them when you finish. Is there anyone who hasent flow matched? And encountered any problems? Cant seem to gather if pop testing is a 2nd gen thing or even absoulutely needed. So that long laundry list of questions on the table can someone toss me some clarification/ answers/ links/ videos. Thanks for your time

Being new to the fourm thing ill try and apply the k.i.s.s. method next time. :cbadge2:

How many miles are on the injectors because anything close too or above 100k you better just buy all new injectors honed to the size you want. That's about life expectancy of a stock set of injectors

No special tools; vise, sockets, and a ratchet.

Search YouTube.....

Changing common rail nozzles

Also, pop testing is 2nd gen and its a good idea to have them flowed after.

Truck haz 136k not sure bout the injectors because the previous owner had some stuf done to it already. The truck runs like a scalded cat and hasent thrown any major flags, ie. the not good smoke, loss of power, rough idle at start up etc. I would love to spring for some remans but I just dont have that deep of pockets plus the extra arm and leg needed for the core charge b.s. is there any way to freshen up the rest of the injector? While there out?

Thanks bigtex tho somthin bout putting one of those things in a vise would kinda make me cringe but I guess ya gotta do what ya gotta do

CR injectors don't need pop tested. You could do just nozzles but you need to be surgical clean and even then you may have issues with how they run. Remans are something that you want to watch what company you go with, as all are not genuine Bosch. If you're looking for stock replacements I'd look at Exergy.

NEVER BUY REMAN :spank: :hehe: Just a little research can tell you that . If your replacing injectors go with all new, Exergy or BMS. Really have to watch because a lot of places sell remans calling them new, also theres no such thing as new SS bodies either, thats a myth.

If you can have the truck down until they get back, send them to exergy and have new stock nozzles put on and have them balanced to see if the bodies are good. That'd be your best bet I'd say, and cheapest vs buying new or reman.

Have you done this before? Whats the time it takes to have them checked not including shipping?

No I haven't but it really depends on how far you are away from them. Your best bet would be to go to Exergy's website and give Harvey a call and ask him, you'll probably find more answers from him than here
