okay i have been struggling with my 4wd for a wile now and im getting angry...first off i know i have a vac leak and i have never really pursued finding it but i would always try and rig something up to keep the fork slid over and just engage it at the t case....now we ended up welded the accuator so the collar wouldnt move and it worked fine and now its not working again and i am wondering what it could be and what i could check to figure it out..really needing it fixed asap!!

you could have twisted of an axle, or your welds broke. the spine could have sheared off that the collar slides on. that would be my imeadate guess because when you welded it you changed the temper of the steel. also the splne on the end of the axle could have sheard of (though very unlikely) I would start by putting the truck in the air and putting it in 4x4. try to twist the front drive shaft and make shure the t case is working. then I would out it in drive and see if the front wheels turned.. they might even they might not. but if your on the ground and you have a broken shaft and an open dif. then they wont turn .power allways goes to the free wheel. and if youhave pretty much any of the problems i listed then you wont get power to the wheels.

Find your Vacuum Leak.....Thats about it. OR go and Get a Pull Cable Lock. I am telling you man CAD delete. Takes 20 mins. And you never have to worry about it.

Sorry to ask but what is a CAD delete. I get my truck out today and try the 4wd and it doesn't engage so My guess I will try to find if I have a leak first.
Thanks

a CAD( Central Axle Delete ) kit is a Solid Axle that Replaces the original two axles, actuators, and Collar. Less moving Bull$hit less to Break.

Are you sure? That collar is weak, that shift fork is even weaker. Not to mention that is a pretty Labor intensive weld as Axles don't usually stick together for more than the time it takes to back it out the shop.

well i didnt actually weld axles together just welded the fork in place with the collor over the axles so the collar is engaged all the time......would the vacuum cause the transfercase not to engage 4wd

When you pull your shifter into lets say 4 low the transfer case will be in 4 low. You have a vacuum switch on the transfer case that operates the axel disconnect. Find that vacuum switch and trace the lines to wherever they go and fix the leak and you should have fixed the problem all together. I dont have a picture of the switch so I cant help you there. If I am wrong about anything I said here somebody please correct me. I have a quick question. What do you need your 4 wheel drive so bad for? I hope I have helped....... Oh and with all this 4X4 talk. I wonder if my 4X4 even works.
