4wd getrag in a 2wd?

I want to pick up this getrag for sale ($400 with 105k miles with zero issues) but its from a 4wd and I want to toss it in my dually (well keep it as a spare and build it until mine dies :banghead:) but can I do that? would I need an adapter plate or will it bolt right up or can it just not be done? thanks in advance.

The tail housing and output shaft are different between the two trans. No way to connect a drive shaft to a 4x4 trans without a Tcase attached.
damn this is really disappointing. thanks though guys

you could use tail hosuing and shaft out of two wheel drive into this trans just make sure you shim it right

what exactly would I need?
what exactly would I need?
2wd mainshaft, 2wd tailhousing, 2wd speedo gear components, yoke, tranny mount, and a complete teardown and rebuild of the transmission.

so it wouldn't be worth it...

just to be clear I need those parts to replace my existing 2wd getrag with the 4wd getrag

You would take apart your 2WD trans for the items bgilbert listed. Then tear down the $X$ trans and rebuild using the listed 2WD parts when putting the trans back together. Or buy the same rebuild kit and rebuild you 2WD trans.

I have the service manual with the rebuild section but it's not with me. how labor intense would that be, more than a days work?
More than a days work.

You need a shop press and bearing pullers.
