04.5 common rail, BLOW BY AND MISSING OUT @ IDLE! HELP!

IVE CHANED THE POST A LITTLE.
THE TRANY IS GOING TO BE REBUILT NOW I HAVE TO GET THE MOTOR TO STOP MISSING.

Its missing at idle... Blowing blue smoke up out of the oil cap. yesterday i drove it around and wile above 100orpm the miss goes away. But today it just misses and blows white smoke...
Its oly got 118K miles,
Undo the oil cap it blows smoke a foot high.... I woulnt say its extreme but its def there.

I thank that #5 is low on compression or maybe a injector is going bad.
I have no idea.
Could i pull the head and oil pan and rering and hone the #5 hole? In the truck??

maybe low and reverse band is burnt up or just needs adjusted. It grabs the low and reverse drum to change direction of rotation from fwd to rev.

That much blow by isn't good. Especially with the white smoke. I think your engine might be hurt. Which would also explain the hurt tranny. You got any history on the truck? Whether or not it had any mods before you bought it? My truck has 165k miles on it and has sees high egt's daily and it doesn't have any blow by at all or very, very little. I'm betting your truck had mods on it before you bought it and the previous owner probably beat the tar out of it and got it real hot and hurt the motor. Check the compression on it and I bet you find a couple of weak cylinders.

yeah sorry 'bout that....there's definately something wrong. I beat the sh*t out of my truck ...its an 06 with 110k mile on it with no issues other than the fan blower going out........did you buy it private or dealer. should get a car fax on it anyways..........:$:

def. sounds like the rear band is out or needs adjusted. pull the trans pan and see if the rear piston came apart or if you have any excessive debris. sounds like your engine definitely needs some attention also

HI droped the pan to adj the low/rev band and i found a metal ring about 8" around and 1/4 wide and it was broken into into peices.

I took ahold of the rev band and there 1/2 slack in it... The thing is tho i had 1st gear, It worked fine just little to no reverse.

Hope this ant a rebuild..

As for the blowby and the missing out..
Its getting better.. Its not blowing as much smoke out the oil cap as it did.
Just seems like #5 hits u can feel the pressure come out of the cap. Just on puff at a time... Maybe #5 is bad of a injector is sticking or somthing.
When it gets warmed up it runs much better. I thank it may have some bad fuel in it also... Driving it u wouldnt ever know.
Just missis slightly at idle.. seems to come and go, U can kinda hear it hit a and miss some times. It stoped blowing the blue smoke out the exhaust mostly tho..
just a little at idle when its missing.

anyways i traded my superduty for this truck. It was a texas truck that a theft recovery. It was flipped but very lightly. It as far as i know wasnt moded.. HOPEFULLY i didnt get ripped AGAIN.

well its hard to say what the theives did to it...they might be tuff motors but theres a reason we all have gauges cause you can hurt them if your stupid with them...and last time i checked if you stole it than you really dont care

I couldnt agree with that more....

Well i just adjusted the low band, it was out a lot..... td to 72" lb and backed out 3 turns... Nothing..

If you've ever rebuilt a 727 then your in good shape. Or so I'm told. Tranny work is something I leave to the professionals.

And if you can feel a pulse coming from #5 then it's a pretty good guess that #5 is hurt.

if it had a box on when it was stolen its hard to say what happened or the previous owner had an injector take out a cylinder and had his buddy come get it...it sucks but id pull the head off and see whats what its not that bad and you can tell an awful lot about these motors looking at the cylinders/pistons

Just got some qoutes for a rebuild.
1500 they pull it and rebuild it and reinstall.
Seems cheap. Has 12 mo 12K warrenty.

The funny part about the # 5 pluse is that when u idle it up the blow by goes nearly away. Will a bad or cloged injecter/line that makes a miss make that pluse?
Its like when it dont miss there no pluse... But u would that that a miss would make less blow by.... wierd.

Whats invalved with pulling the head?

Do i have to mess with the pump timing and that crap. head gasket is pricey also.
BUT thats a good idea! wonder if it was scored up do u think a guy could rering that pistion and hone that cly and get away with it..?? maybe :lol3:

Get this.... I thank my lift pump took a big shi#. This is getting to be silly.
I changed my fuel filter, It was green... I wanted to see if it was getting fuel so i hit the key a cople time and nothing. is my lift in tank or on the fuel filter housing.
I serched it but seen both. Mine a 04.5 maybe a wire is unhooked.

Oh also the windsheld wipers, Over head display and the voltage gauge dont work..
What is this trucks problems. Checked for blown fuses bug has none.

could be snap ring for the rear clutch.are you sure you have 1st gear and not taking off in 2nd? they are not hard to rebuild if you have the correct tools. I think the only diff between 1st and reverse is the LR band holds LR drum so the rear carrier can reverse direction.

Yes, I have no idea..
I got qouted 1500.00 for the compleate rebuild. that them pulling and puttn it back in a with a 12-12 warrenty.

Now i just havd to get my motor to stop missing out, Im going to try to hone and rering 2 of the pistons

Pulling the head ain't hard, just time consuming. And you don't have to mess with timing or nothing. Just yank the head off. Do some research on it. If the scoring in the cylinder isn't to bad you can probably get away with a hone and re-ring.

tuesday when i get my new turbo on it im going to drive it over to a guys house that is sopposed to know common rails really good. so maybe he can tell me if it has a bad pistion/rings or injector.
Hopefully it will just be somthing silly...
But thin again tha blow by is a dead giveaway

The 1500 was for the tranny rebuild.
I wish i could find a motor rebuild for 1500.00

Did u do it in the truck or did u pull it out? I just want to try to do it in tha truck if possible.
