the broken snap ring is usually the wavy snap ring in the OD housing. it's easy to replace. i've had a g65 and a built 48,
I much prefer the built auto. I love my hand shakers don't get me wrong, but a correctly built auto is great. 150K on mine and it's been perfect.

Im not to sure which snap ring it is doesn’t seem to be wavy I found about 4.5 inches solid of it in the pan. And as for the swap not sure if I want the g56 anymore possibly just use the nv5600.

between the 5600 and G56 i'd take the G56 hands down, get the later 08 version though.
the broken snap ring is very very common, it's in the OD housing. Cascade transmissions has some great teardown videos if you have the ability, pull the OF housing off and take it to a shop, unless you have a press, it's really easy with a press.
