Is the trans all stock besides the converter?
Burnt clutch. more than likely the rear clutch. if your trans slips in all foforward gears and not reverse that's the rear clutch. If it won't move forward now your rear clutch is completely toast now.
No it has billet shafts suncoast valve body and billet bands as well as piston
thank you bootstrap! i got a kit with new red alto clutches and steels ill take it apart tonight!
Yea do that and let us know how it goes. Pictures would be great too. If you havent done tranny rebuilds I would strongly recommend the ATSG book. Plus, label everything. Nothing sucks more than doing all that work and having it go pop in 500 miles. Well, prison sex probably sucks more than that...
I second burnt clutch. I think you'll need to get it rebuilt. Once the clutch burnt, all fluid was bad and filter clogged up. Once you drained the fluid and changed filter, it only lasted for a short time. I bet if you drain fluid again and don't put the filter back, it will run again but then after that it's completely done.
When you disassemble the rear unit take safety into your mind. There is an 800# spring in there that can take part of you with it if it flies across the shop. You need a press or to have someone with a press remove it and then install it.

That may have been the case but if I understand correctly, it will go into reverse right now. I have seen one time in my life where a tranny acted really funny. In a 97 Ram v6 he lost reverse. Drove around for at least 6 months with no reverse. Then one day, he lost all forward gears and regained reverse. Weird.

I second that big time. I would find a buddy that has a press. Unless you plan on using a press frequently, its probably not worth the expense. I plan to use a friends press when that time comes.
Thanks all, I built the trans myself the lasttime and has lasted over a year with a bunch of launches on it. I made a tool to compress the spring so I will add pictures if I knew how. Any one wanna swap for a nv4500?
