Ok my detent in my gear selector is absolutly GONE now. For the last month or two I've noticed once the trans warms up it gets harder to go from park-neutral-drive-reverse and today we pull the boat to the lake and back and backed it up the driveway, went to put her in park and it wouldn't move. So, I put light to decent pressure on the shifter to get it to move and it broke loose. it still goes into gear and runs fine it just has no detent. For those who dont know, the detent is the preset "bumbs" that you feel going into different gears. CAN ANYONE TELL ME WTF I BROKE THIS MORNING??? THANKS SO MUCH

The detent is a spring-loaded ball that operates against the indentations of the "rooster comb" - all are located on the top side of the valve body. If someone was working on the valvebody and forgot to install the E-clip on the throttle pressure lever's shaft, the manual shaft could have risen up to the point where the detent ball escaped... Now it is probably in the pan stuck to the magnet...

Yes, I have read that the detente ball can come out. You will need to remove the pan to see it.

we had this problem on both our 48re, theres a linkage that connects to the tranny i forget where but i know we got stuck in a parking lot a couple years ago and had to jimmy it together, its about to go again as it takes the god damn power of thor the get it out of park.
