Let's say the PCM is fried for some reason.
EMP.
Electrical system failure.
I get a little too drunk and decide to drive into a lake.
Whatever reason.

Will the 47RE do ANYTHING without a functioning PCM? Even just running in the first three speeds without Overdrive or Torque Converter Clutch lockup?

I've done the whole drunk/huge mudhole with a 4l60E & oulda served about 65 strawberry shakes....
Manual valve body is the only way a 47RE will function in any drivable manner without the PCM.
So, how was the water?

You may have 1st gear and reverse. You might try taking cover off pcm and dry out. I beleive it is potteded with epoxy. the connector pins are the first issue to work with.
A conversion to 47RH is very difficult and would require intinimate internal trans workings knowledge and excess parts as governor is different.
