Im buying a 2001 ctd dually has 4 10`s it is a 5 speed and he says it gets 17 mpg. My father in law says no way he gets that much could you explain why he does or does not get that
Check out the truck in my signature. 4.10's, never drops BELOW 17 even when I'm towing. Normally huvers around 19 just daily driving. It's totally possible. Your father in-law must not be a diesel guy.
With 33 to 35" tires, it is very possible. With stock tires, it will be from 14-16 mpg. So, definitely check the tire size. If he's got 285's or 315's on it, then he's probably right on with that mileage. opcorn:
4:10's, auto, 33's (well, more like 31.8's now)= Best recorded 17.1 MPG city and highway. Truck was stock. I haven't checked since I've added tranny, and electronics.
a 4:10 will run 70mph ABOVE 2000rpms where MY 3:73 will run 80 at 2000rpms. The 4:10 is for heavy towing, or racing, or wherever more RPM's are needed.
thanks this is good to hear My father in law has a 1999 3/4 ton with edge box, he has 355 rear end and gets 18 empty and 13 pulling so he is just not happy that i will get better mileage.
