Hey guys.....I am experiencing a violent "driveline lash", when taking my foot off the accelerator......in particular, when the truck is going around 30 mph. It's very violent, and it can't be good for the truck.

I have gotten better at trying to drive around it (remove foot slowly from accelerator), but there are times when you just need to get out of it quick. I have about 4500 miles on the truck (build date 5/13, purchased 10/13). Seems to be about the same as when I first got it.

Did a search, and it seems that it is related to TC lockup, 3-4 shift or something. No definitive solution posted yet.

Can someone please explain to me what the truck is actually doing, and if there are other methods of "driving around it"? Lastly, does Ram have a fix for it?

This is my 3rd Ram diesel, and the best by far. The truck would be perfect to me if it wasn't for this.

Thanks in advance,

Jason

I had similar down shifting banging and seems to be gone after I got latest tranny software update on this Tuesday so drive by your dealer and ask them to scan software updates your truck needs.

It is not driveline lash, it IS the torque converter unlocking. The first time my truck did it (mine's a '12 but same tranny), it scared the bejeebus out of me. Threw me forward in my seat in such a manner that had I not been wearing my seatbelt I would have been eating the dash. Strangely, my truck only did it a handful of times when relatively new, in part because I learned the circumstances under which it happens, and perhaps because I have had it flashed. It was particularly bad when accelerating hard to 40 mph, then chopping the throttle. I try not to do that anymore. I honestly don't think it is hard on anything, just a nuisance. No different than the tow/haul mode downshifting hard on a grade with 15k behind her.

Just had my truck in for the same issue! Open a star case and have the service tech call and speak to an engineer. My dealership did that and believe it or not they had to reprogram it with different size tires then reset back to original tires. I still get a slight kick but only if I am trying and the tranny no longer has a lag between gears.

You have the now famous and rapidly becoming obsolete 4-5 upshift slam.
There is a software update that those that did it are happy with.
See this thread.

All your other ones were 47re's and 48re's so how can you compare that? I have had 11 auto CTD's and never had a shifting problem with one of them.

Just got my '13 in today for the PCM updates and the uConnect 8.4 radio update. It seems to have fixed my problem with the vent airflow on the heat setting, tranny shifts better and the uconnect radio is 100 times more responsive when pressing on the screen.
