3 way switch wiring diagram

As I approach the install of my reverse LED lights, I'm thinking of plans on how to wire them in. Currently, I have a wiring harness which has a relay with wires to the cab and two to the actual lights themselves, and another to source power. The best idea I have thought of is to put in a three way switch with one position, most likely the flat way (best way to describe it...) being on with the reverse lights, then once rocked to either side it will either keep them off or have them on by my command.

Honestly, I have absolutely no clue how to wire it this way, but have seen it done before. Do any of yall know how to do this??

Also, if there is an easier way, I'd love to know!

subscribed, I have yet to find a good diagram that show how this is done
But that way you would have power going though the switch? Wouldn't it be better to run it through a relay?

The SPDT switch I have has 7 pins and that is what is confusing me.

Get a on off on switch. Run your reverse light wire from the reverse switch to one side. And then back to the lights. In that position when in reverse the lights will come on. On the other side of the switch fine a 12vDc source and to the switch. Them to the lights. Put a one way diode in the wire going back to the switch on the side that goes to the revese switch that way you don't backfired the switch.
